Metaplanet Acquires Siiibo Securities

Metaplanet acquires Siiibo Securities in a 2.1 billion yen deal to build Bitcoin-linked financial products for Japanese retail investors. The takeover gives the firm a licensed securities platform. It also supports a direct push into regulated yield offerings inside Japan.

In a post on X, CEO Simon Gerovich said the company agreed to buy Siiibo outright. Siiibo operates as a Type I securities firm. It is also known for online corporate bond services.

Metaplanet Plans Bitcoin Yield Products in Japan

The acquisition is set to take place in July. Metaplanet will rebrand the company to Metaplanet Securities. The decision will be part of Project Nova, which focuses on Bitcoin-based finances.

According to Gerovich, this acquisition will mark the first major acquisition for Metaplanet. In addition, it marks the first step that Metaplanet will be taking in implementing Project Nova. Through the acquisition of Siiibo Securities, Metaplanet will venture out from merely having Bitcoin.

The company plans on leveraging the licenses and platform of Siiibo to create Bitcoin-related yield products in Japan. These products will be created using Metaplanet’s 40,177 BTC assets.

Metaplanet purchases Siiibo Securities amidst high levels of cash hoarding by Japanese households. According to Bank of Japan data, there were 1,140 trillion yen in cash and bank deposits as of the year-end of 2025. This represents 48.5% of household financial assets.

Metaplanet Links Bitcoin Strategy With Traditional Finance

According to Gerovich, Japan’s transition from a deflationary period to an inflationary environment would influence demand changes. It means that capital is currently searching for yield. The company aims to link Bitcoin with traditional finance.

Siiibo Securities started its operations in 2019. The firm acts as a stand-alone Type I financial instruments business operator. Its platform makes available private placements of corporate bonds to retail investors.

That bond market has long been led by institutions and wealthy investors. Metaplanet’s supplementary deck said Siiibo has arranged more than 100 bond issuances. Those offerings involved more than 40 companies.

Metaplanet acquires Siiibo Securities amid both companies reporting losses. Siiibo suffered a net loss of 175.4 million yen in the year prior. This was up from a 162.1 million yen loss in 2024.

Metaplanet Acquires Siiibo Securities to Advance Project Nova

Metaplanet reported a net loss for the first quarter. It stood at 114.5 billion yen due to losses from Bitcoin’s end-of-period mark-to-market valuation.

Metaplanet acquires Siiibo Securities following its establishment of a Bitcoin portfolio that ranks among the largest in Japan. The acquisition will provide Metaplanet with a securities solution with regulation. It will provide an investor platform as well.

Project Nova will concentrate on developing a financial ecosystem anchored by Bitcoin. This includes creating products with yield and accessing markets. This is the first operational step towards the project.

Metaplanet acquires Siiibo Securities while its stocks have seen some improvement. According to Yahoo Finance data, the company’s stock ended the trading day with gains of 3.57%. Nonetheless, it had lost 31.76% over the past month.
