Key Takeaway

  • NYC’s incoming mayor, Eric Adams believes Bitcoin [BTC] is the latest method of payment that is being widely adopted by the entire globe.
  • Therefore, schools “must” provide education about this technology that has been thriving.

Mayors from different cities across the US have been expressing interest in crypto. NYC’s incoming mayor, Eric Adams not only pledged to accept his paycheck in Bitcoin but also plans on turning the region into a crypto hub.

Over the last couple of weeks, a whole new trend took off where mayors were seen agreeing to accept their salaries in crypto. Many considered this revolutionary as politicians diving into the crypto-verse was a huge milestone for the industry. The crypto market went from being thrashed by government officials to being widely recognized and accepted by them.

Eric Adams has time and again expressed his interest in crypto. NYC mayor-elect, Adams recently spoke at an interview and portrayed his views about Bitcoin.

Miami has certainly acted as an inspiration to many. Mayor Francis Suarez’s crypto-friendly moves amped up the adoption rate of these digital assets. Following the footsteps of Suarez, NYC’s Eric Adams noted that he intended to transform New York City into a crypto hub.

In his latest interview, Adams brought to attention how young people in NYC barely knew about blockchain or Bitcoin. He further noted that Bitcoin was the “new way of paying for goods and services throughout the entire globe.” Hence he suggested that it was about time schools incorporated education related to crypto and blockchain.

While certain hostility surrounding crypto still exists in the United States, Adams’ future moves with regard to crypto were being highly anticipated by the community.

Adams further added,

“I want to make sure that this city becomes the center of innovation no matter what that innovation is, and this is what the human spirit is about: Not being afraid to look at every area of innovation as we move our country and city forward.”

Just last week, Adams with a few other mayors pledged to accept their paychecks in Bitcoin. Adams went a step ahead and affirmed that he would be open to receiving his next three paychecks in BTC.
