Ethereum faces make-or-break moment at $1,750 support

May 8, 2025 by Sajjal Ali

  • Ethereum shows mild gains but faces technical fragility around $1,750 support.
  • Analysts warn of a potential drop to $1,500 if the critical level breaks.
  • New Pectra upgrade sparks both innovation and immediate wallet safety concerns.

Ethereum is currently trading at $1,824.4, with a 1.13% increase over the last 24 hours, with a massive trading volume of $50.13 billion, a rise of 293%. ETH has increased modestly by 1.47% over the last week, which is a sign of short-term strength.

Market analyst Daan Crypto Trades sees ETH perilously close to a support point of $1,750. Despite bulls being able to keep the price afloat, Daan cautions that “another test might not hold,” with the threat of a “Bart” pattern, a shape normally associated with a sudden jump, brief consolidation, and a rapid reverse, possibly bringing ETH back into the $1,500s. Volume on the graph indicates declining strength of buys, and the ongoing series of lower highs and lower lows indicates that the overall trend is still downhill.

Ethereum Pectra upgrade and smart contract changes

Concurrent with this precarious price equilibrium is the highly anticipated Ethereum Pectra upgrade, implemented on the network today. Although the upgrade is bringing major improvements for making wallets easier to use and for making smart contracts even more flexible, it also invites major new vulnerabilities.

At the center of concern is EIP-3074, a protocol enhancement that permits a single signature from a user to authorize smart contracts to act on their behalf. Community opinions have quickly echoed with alarms being sounded that bad contracts could misuse the new AUTH and AUTHCALL opcodes and utterly drain a user’s balance. A user stressed, “You only need to sign a message to be completely drained!”

In parallel, EIP-7702 now permits temporary full access to an account, raising fears that a single transaction could transfer an entire ETH balance, including tokens and NFTs, to a rogue contract.

Long-term outlook for Ethereum stays positive

In spite of the near-term risk, long-term optimism persists. Ethereum is likely to hit $3,985.62 by the end of the year, possibly even rising to its record of $4,891.70. Market players are expecting that increased adoption and utility enhancements from the Pectra fork outweigh near-term volatility.

However, for the moment, Ethereum is stuck at a technical crossroad, with both risk and opportunity heightened. Buyers are being urged to keep a close eye on $1,750; a failure to sustain it could precipitate a sharper correction, and a determined push ever upward may reactivate the rally momentum.

Ethereum’s Update Is Live; Here’s How It Plans to Improve User Experience

May 8, 2025 by Onyi

  • Ethereum’s Update Is Live; Here’s How It Plans to Improve User Experience
  • Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade has been launched, and it introduces 11 new updates designed to enhance user experience and boost network efficiency.
  • Some of the key features include increased staking limits, simplified cross-layer communication, and reduced gas fees for developers.

Ethereum, the world’s second-largest blockchain, has set out to carry out one of the biggest updates in crypto history. The blockchain network plans to carry out a Pectra upgrade, with the promise of bringing faster speeds, smoother interactions, and a more user-friendly experience across the network.

Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade officially launched on the 7th of May, 2025, at epoch 364032, which was some hours ago. This new Pectra upgrade brings features from the Prague and Electra updates. It also brings 11 new changes aimed at making the network faster, safer, and easier for users. For everyday users, this automatically means quicker transactions and fewer headaches. For developers and investors, it shows Ethereum’s seriousness towards achieving scalability and mainstream adoption.

What does this Ethereum update include?

The Pectra upgrade was launched at 6 a.m. Eastern on May 7, 2025. And it would improve validator performance, support cheaper Layer 2 transactions, and add better wallet tools. One of the most exciting updates is the platform’s decision to increase token staking limits to 2,048 ETH, making operations easier while also speeding up deposit times.

To lower costs, the platform has encouraged the use of blob over old data methods, and throughput has doubled. So basically, wallets can now act like smart contracts for grouped actions and sponsored fees. Gas use has been reduced for cryptography, and developers can now get easier access to older data.

Communication across layers is now simpler too. These upgrade lowers work for validators and give coders more ways to build fast and affordable tools. Although testing had a few issues, the mainnet launch went smoothly. With billions held on the network, this step could strengthen trust among investors and general crypto users moving forward.

Ethereum’s Pectra Upgrade Is Coming, But What Changes Will It Bring?

April 25, 2025 by Mutuma Maxwell

  • Ethereum will launch the Pectra upgrade on its mainnet on May 7, 2025.
  • The upgrade includes EIP-7702, which adds smart contract features to standard accounts.
  • Pectra will double the number of data blobs per block to improve Layer 2 scalability.

Ethereum will launch its Pectra upgrade on May 7, 2025, marking a key milestone in its development roadmap. The update brings more scalable performance features, essential validator requirements, and better user interaction. According to Tim Beiko, the update will be released during epoch 364032 after the testnet experienced brief obstacles.

New Upgrade Transforms Ethereum Wallet Usage

EIP-7702 will allow externally owned accounts (EOAs) to act like smart contracts, which broadens Ethereum’s functionality for everyday users. Upgraded accounts introduced from EIP-7702 can execute transaction batching and gas fee sponsorship and perform asset recovery while retaining assets in the initial wallet. This change aims to simplify the user experience and improve overall wallet security on the Ethereum network.

— timbeiko.eth (@TimBeiko) April 23, 2025

The proposal adds built-in complex capability that had previously required contract wallets, thus allowing wider use by non-technical account owners. This innovation establishes essential infrastructure required by programs that need dynamic wallet management systems, such as automated financial solutions and decentralized wallet services. The enhancement reflects Ethereum’s broader push toward making the network more intuitive without compromising its decentralized nature.

By enabling EOAs to interact in more advanced ways, Ethereum moves closer to a unified account system that empowers users. The adoption level increases while use cases benefit from advanced account logic through this evolution. Developers have new opportunities to construct better tools and applications using intelligent and efficient accounts.

Pectra Upgrade Enhances Staking and Security

The Pectra upgrade also introduces major improvements for Ethereum validators, boosting performance and reducing operational costs. Pectra validators enhance their reward efficiency while avoiding managing multiple validator keys by raising their effective staking balance to 2048 ETH. The changes applied to the peer-to-peer network improve its functionality by easing stress and reducing damage.

The upgrade removes the Proof of Work (PoW) follow distance rule, reducing the time needed to process deposits. Deposit processing and execution-layer-triggered withdrawals improve staking flexibility and quickens the processing time. Participants now have trustless security through withdrawals when setting up their staking activities.

The validator improvements align with Ethereum’s aim to streamline operations and reduce network load. The network achieves less complexity while reducing communication costs through fewer validator accounts that maintain greater balance amounts. This approach also helps Ethereum scale without compromising security or decentralization principles.

Ethereum Prepares for dApp Demand Surge

Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade increases the number of data blobs per block from 3 to 6, doubling current capacity. The upgrade allows Optimism, Arbitrum, and other L2 networks to scale quicker because they process larger amounts of data through each transaction. The extra data blobs will enable Ethereum to fulfill increasing demands from users of decentralized applications.

Through EIP-7623, network stabilization during peaks becomes possible through block size restrictions, which support the Pectra upgrade. The modified blob limit improves Layer 2 data availability while preventing the mainnet from encountering excessive size challenges. The development provides a secure method for expansion that maintains system performance and security levels.

With this boost, Ethereum positions itself as a more robust platform for decentralized finance, gaming, and social applications. The foundation of Layer 2 projects receives improved efficiency, allowing them to establish innovation and achieve mass adoption. This scalability step confirms Ethereum’s commitment to handling future growth while staying developer-friendly.

Ethereum to Discontinue Holesky Testnet by September 2025 Amid Validator Exit Issues

March 20, 2025 by Sheila

  • Due to validator exit delays, the Holesky testnet will be phased out by September 2025.
  • Hoodi testnet will replace Holesky for testing Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade starting March 26.
  • Ethereum plans to discontinue Holesky after congestion issues hinder validator testing.

The Ethereum development team plans to stop Holesky testnet support by September 2025, thus concluding its duties in testing network upgrades. Developer support for the Holesky testnet ended after it failed to manage the Pectra update and encountered difficulties due to a large backlog of validator exits. Since its September 2023 launch Holesky has been one of it’s essential testnets for validating network activities of both validators and staking providers.

Issues with Holesky Testnet and Validator Exits

Holesky’s difficulties began during testing for the Pectra upgrade. A faulty test in February caused widespread disruptions, resulting in the testnet going offline. Although the network returned online in March, it suffered from inactivity leaks, leading to a congested validator exit queue. The Ethereum Foundation (EF) explained that removing exited validators would take about a year, making Holesky unsuitable for testing the full validator lifecycle within a practical timeframe.

Therefore, the Ethereum Foundation decided that development focuses on the newly launched Hoodi testnet. From activating Pectra on March 26, 2025, Hoodi will be responsible for testing validator-related features including the Pectra upgrade. This change is important to allow the cryptocurrency to keep testing and refining its network upgrades, especially in light of the recent issues with Holesky.

Transition to Hoodi Testnet for Pectra Upgrade

Subsequently, the Ethereum Foundation introduced Hoodi as a replacement of Holesky which was meant for validator testing. Hoodi is scheduled for the Pectra upgrade on March 26, 2025, and will become the main validator testing network from now on. The upgrade is planned to be delivered to the main Ethereum network in one month after passing testing on the Hoodi network.

Ethereum introduces Hoodi as part of its continuous initiative to improve testing infrastructure and ensure smoother protocol upgrades. Developers expect Hoodi to remain operational until 2028, providing a stable environment for testing future network upgrades. Ethereum has indicated that it will retire other testnets, such as Sepolia, in the coming years.

However, the Ethereum Foundation plans to have Holesky active until September 2025 despite the problems concerning validator exits. The testnet will stay online for further testing of features like deposits and consolidations required for the Pectra upgrade. The shutdown of Holesky’s is set to occur by September 30, 2025. Until then, developers will test specific features while in Hoodi for more comprehensive testing of the Pectra upgrade.
