Ethereum’s Update Is Live; Here’s How It Plans to Improve User Experience

May 8, 2025 by Onyi

  • Ethereum’s Update Is Live; Here’s How It Plans to Improve User Experience
  • Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade has been launched, and it introduces 11 new updates designed to enhance user experience and boost network efficiency.
  • Some of the key features include increased staking limits, simplified cross-layer communication, and reduced gas fees for developers.

Ethereum, the world’s second-largest blockchain, has set out to carry out one of the biggest updates in crypto history. The blockchain network plans to carry out a Pectra upgrade, with the promise of bringing faster speeds, smoother interactions, and a more user-friendly experience across the network.

Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade officially launched on the 7th of May, 2025, at epoch 364032, which was some hours ago. This new Pectra upgrade brings features from the Prague and Electra updates. It also brings 11 new changes aimed at making the network faster, safer, and easier for users. For everyday users, this automatically means quicker transactions and fewer headaches. For developers and investors, it shows Ethereum’s seriousness towards achieving scalability and mainstream adoption.

What does this Ethereum update include?

The Pectra upgrade was launched at 6 a.m. Eastern on May 7, 2025. And it would improve validator performance, support cheaper Layer 2 transactions, and add better wallet tools. One of the most exciting updates is the platform’s decision to increase token staking limits to 2,048 ETH, making operations easier while also speeding up deposit times.

To lower costs, the platform has encouraged the use of blob over old data methods, and throughput has doubled. So basically, wallets can now act like smart contracts for grouped actions and sponsored fees. Gas use has been reduced for cryptography, and developers can now get easier access to older data.

Communication across layers is now simpler too. These upgrade lowers work for validators and give coders more ways to build fast and affordable tools. Although testing had a few issues, the mainnet launch went smoothly. With billions held on the network, this step could strengthen trust among investors and general crypto users moving forward.

Ethereum’s Pectra Update: SHIB and ERC-20 Tokens to Revolutionize Gas Fees

March 1, 2025 by Arslan Tabish

  • Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade in March 2025 will enable users to pay gas fees with ERC-20 tokens like Shiba Inu (SHIB).
  • Pectra introduces account abstraction, allowing ERC-20 tokens like SHIB, BONE, and USDC to replace ETH for transaction fees.
  • Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade also boosts staking limits, smart contract capabilities, and network scalability for improved performance.

The Ethereum platform is getting ready for a significant update, which might transform fee payment for operations. The new feature – Pectra update that is to be released in March 2025 will let users pay with ERC-20 tokens, such as SHIB. That will be done using account abstraction which is likely; to increase flexibility in transaction methods.

Shiba Inu’s Ethereum Integration

Ethereum users only have the option of paying with the native cryptocurrency coin called ETH. Nonetheless, with Pectra, it is possible to pay for gas fees with other erc-20 tokens such as USD Coin (USDC and DAI. This is made possible by the update where token tokens such as Shiba Inu can be utilized in this manner.

Ethereum’s Pectra Upgrade: Will SHIB, BONE, or TREAT Be Usable for Gas in 2025?

Shiba Inu’s participation in the upgrade was a matter of focus in the crypto space. However, it is not clear whether BONE and TREAT, the tokens native to the Shiba Inu ecosystem, will also be incorporated. If successful, Ethereum users will be able to transact price for token movements, NFTs, and other activities on dApps using SHIB.

Shiba Inu’s marketing lead, Lucie, clarified earlier that it was impossible to pay fees with SHIB. She has cited the technical difficulties that have so far hindered such payments. However, the new update Pectra can help the gas payment options and add new tokens like Shiba Inu tokens.

Pectra Upgrade Enhancements

Pectra will also get several other significant enhancements under the upgrade plan; One of the major changes includes the increase in the staking amount for Ethereum from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. This is designed to enhance the staking effectiveness for Ethereum and the network’s capacity as well. The update will also enrich all smart contract capabilities and address the issue of storage in the network.

Ethereum developers recently experienced a blow when the Pectra failed to reach consensus on the Holesky testnet. This was promptly attended to by the team, assuring that it was a one-off occurrence that could be managed. However, the upgrade will proceed as planned, with the following testnet to happen on March 5, 2025, within Ethereum’s Sepolia testnet.

Mid-March Alert: Ethereum’s Largest Upgrade, Pectra, is Coming!

January 26, 2025 by Sadia Ali

  1. Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade, expected in mid-March, marks its largest evolution with multiple innovative EIPs.
  2. EIP-7702 revolutionizes user transactions with account abstraction, enabling gas sponsorship and transaction bundling.
  3. EIP-7251 increases validator balance limits, streamlining staking and reducing network congestion.

Ethereum’s much-anticipated Pectra upgrade, the most extensive in its history, is tentatively scheduled for mid-March. According to Ethereum educator and investor Sassal, the upgrade introduces a record number of Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), thus changing scalability, staking, and user experience. Pectra will raise the bar for efficiency, innovation, and performance on blockchains through wide-ranging enhancements.

1/ Ethereum's next major upgrade, Pectra, is tentatively scheduled to go live in mid-March!

This will be Ethereum's largest upgrade in history (as measured by number of EIPs/features included).

Here's a breakdown of what's coming in Pectra 🧵👇

— sassal.eth/acc 🦇🔊 (@sassal0x) January 24, 2025

Revolutionary Features to Redefine Ethereum

At the forefront of Pectra is EIP-7702, a major milestone in introducing account abstraction. It simplifies user transactions by providing features like gas sponsorship, transaction bundling, and asset recovery. The cumbersome “approve-swap” process will become a paperweight and replace mostly single-step transactions for more friendliness and efficiency of Ethereum.

EIP-7251 pushes staking to a new level as the cap for validator balances increases from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH. This allows compounding staking rewards without needing extra validators and aggregates validators controlled by one operator, reducing network strain and enhancing staking efficiency.

EIP-7691 provides scalability, increasing blob throughput, increasing the roll-up capacity, and decreasing transaction fees. This directly contributes to the usability of Layer 2 solutions on Ethereum.

Simultaneously, it penalizes any attempts to use calldata for storing roll-ups by increasing the gas cost while making blobs even cheaper in relative terms to optimize scalability further.

Enhanced Efficiency and Technical Refinements

Among Pecta’s upgrades, the final EIP-7002-promotion pull request for fully trustless staking pools may introduce execution-layer-driven validator exits. The lack of intermediate operators to process withdrawals and distribute rewards, in turn, improves security and decentralization.

EIP-7685 allows for easy communication between Ether’s execution and consensus layers while relying much less on any form of intermediary, usually through the use of oracles. Simplification of complex processes results in increased efficiency, whereby direct interaction will now be achievable with smart contracts and between smart contracts with the staking layer.

EIP-2537 concerns cryptographic improvements, and it focuses on zero-knowledge proof in particular. Because of the optimizations of these procedures, Ether can be scaled with an improvement in privacy, which is crucial for the growing user base.

Supporting EIPs, such as EIP-2935, EIP-6110, EIP-7549, and EIP-7840, tune smaller aspects of the network: serving historical block hashes, smoothing validator deposits, and improving network configuration files, among other changes, in a way that makes Ethereum resilient and future-proof.

With Pectra’s imminent integration into Ethereum, the anticipation is huge. It can potentially improve the user experience, increase scalability, and unlock new use cases for decentralized applications. The middle of March might turn out to be Ethereum’s critical turn toward being a far more usable and efficient blockchain.
