John McAfee found dead shortly after Spanish High Court permits extradition

June 24, 2021 by Sahana Kiran

Prominent antivirus company’s founder, John McAfee, made sure to stay relevant in the crypto-verse with his predictions and extreme bullishness towards Bitcoin [BTC]. But, unfortunately, this crypto security veteran was found dead in his prison cell in Barcelona, Spain, where he was serving time for tax evasion.

The crypto community garnered immense support from the cybersecurity vet over the years; however, his prediction of BTC hitting $500,000 in 2020 is what stood out for many. While this prediction did not come true, Bitcoin did fare well in 2020. McAfee even rolled out a privacy token called Ghost, which had put him under the crypto spotlight. But, this project didn’t make any advancements, and the crypto advocate abandoned the project.

McAfee was arrested in October last year for hiding his assets from the IRS during all of this. Spanish authorities captured him in Barcelona’s international airport. While he was stuck here, McAfee sought extradition to the US. This, however, took time to process as it required the involvement of Spain’s high court.

Earlier today, the Spanish High Court approved the extradition of John McAfee to the US. While another set of charges pertaining to cryptocurrencies were awaiting McAfee in the Manhattan federal court, the 75-year-old business tycoon had committed suicide in his prison cell. His lawyers affirmed that McAfee had hung himself and the prison medical services almost immediately tried to resuscitate him. Confirming the same, the prison officials stated,

“The judicial procession has traveled to the prison and is investigating the causes of death. Everything indicates that it could be a death by suicide.”

Furthermore, his extradition process took quite a while as rumors about his political motivation surfaced. As this was dismissed and his charges were limited to tax evasion, the court had finally approved his extradition. John McAfee’s lawyer in Spain, Javier Villalba, spoke to Reuters and noted that the cybersecurity veteran did not want to be locked up anymore. The lawyer added,

“This is the result of a cruel system that had no reason to keep this man in jail for so long.”

John McAfee garners tributes across industries

John McAfee had undoubtedly amassed a large following throughout the crypto-verse. Several crypto influencers, including IOHK’s Charles Hoskinson, Anthony Pompliano, and even Kim Dotcom, expressed their condolences.

I once had the opportunity to spend the day with the legend @officialmcafee on his boat in the Bahamas.

He was kind, funny, and incredibly intelligent.

Will always remember that day. RIP to one of the world’s most unique individuals. pic.twitter.com/B5FnvDBRYK

— Pomp 🌪 (@APompliano) June 23, 2021

Edward Snowden, a former National Security Agency member, also commented on the whole extradition process and suggested that the system was unfair and cruel. His tweet read,

“Europe should not extradite those accused of non-violent crimes to a court system so unfair—and prison system so cruel—that native-born defendants would rather die than become subject to it. Julian Assange could be next. Until the system is reformed, a moratorium should remain.”

An Array Of Condolences Pour In Following An Update From McAfee’s Wife

October 10, 2020 by Sahana Kiran

Earlier this week, John McAfee, founder of popular anti-virus software, was arrested on an array of charges including tax evasion and endorsement of ICOs. The former presidential candidate was captured in Spain, awaiting his extradition to the United States. Amidst this, McAfee’s wife revealed that he was having a great time during his stay.

“Spanish Prison Is Not That Bad”

The business tycoon was on the run for a long time now and continued hiding from the IRS. McAfee was charged for concealing his tax liability as he steered his income that was to be paid into crypto exchange accounts as well as bank accounts. He carried all of this in the names of his nominees. As he was arrested in Spain, McAfee is mandated to spend his time in a Spanish prison until his extradition comes through. While going to jail can be horrifying for almost every individual, McAfee revealed that he was having a nice time.

Janice McAfee, the wife of John McAfee took to Twitter and revealed that he insisted on sharing a message with the community. Her tweet read,

“I was able to speak with John today. He is still in good spirits and wanted me to share this message with all of you.”

After being sued for illegally promoting ICOs by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the agency revealed that McAfee had made more than $23.1 million through the ICOs. People scammed by the business tycoon poured in comments on Janice McAfee’s tweet and suggested that he deserved to be in prison.

However, McAfee seemed to have a huge fan base as several were seen sending their condolences to his wife. While many asked what they could do to help, Janice McAfee said,

“There’s not much we can do right now, it’s up to the lawyers lawyering. We have a team of the best so I expect a good outcome.”

Furthermore, a tweet from John McAfee’s official account had also surfaced Twitter where McAfee went on to elaborate on his new friend.

John McAfee Arrested In Spain; SEC Sues over ICO Endorsement

October 6, 2020 by Chayanika Deka

Former Presidential candidate and the man behind McAfee anti-virus software, John McAfee was arrested in Spain on charges of tax evasion. The business tycoon allegedly evaded his tax liability by directing his income to be paid into bank accounts and crypto exchange accounts in the names of nominees. Furthermore, the indictment also alleged that McAfee attempted to evade the IRS by hiding assets, including real property, a vehicle, and a yacht, in the names of others.

The DOJ’s official press release stated,

“According to the indictment, John McAfee earned millions in income from promoting cryptocurrencies, consulting work, speaking engagements, and selling the rights to his life story for a documentary. From 2014 to 2018, McAfee allegedly failed to file tax returns, despite receiving considerable income from these sources.”

Additionally, the Securities and Exchange Commission [SEC] also sued McAfee for allegedly not disclosing that he was being paid to promote the ICOs by the issuers.

The SEC alleged that the cybersecurity millionaire engaged in a practice known as “scalping” as to at least one digital asset security, by accumulating large amounts of the digital asset security and touting it on Twitter
without disclosing with no intention of selling it.

The complaint read,

“McAfee falsely claimed to be an investor and/or a technical advisor when he recommended several ICOs, creating the impression that he had vetted these companies, that they were benefitting from his technical expertise, and that he was willing to invest his own money in the ventures. In reality, McAfee’s tweets were paid promotions disguised as impartial investment advice.”

The plaintiff’s complaint further revealed that there were at least seven unidentified ICO issuers who communicated with McAfee’s team to get him to promote their ICOs in exchange for payment in those coins and in Bitcoin. Using his social media platform, McAfee alleged made more than $23.1 million in undisclosed compensation by these ICOs.

Crypto Bull John McAfee Leaves the Ghost, the Privacy Centric Crypto Project.

August 20, 2020 by Yvette Mwendwa

Cybersecurity veteran and cryptocurrency advocate John McAfee has revealed through Twitter that he will not be affiliated with the privacy Ghost Token project that he launched in April. According to him, the ineptitude of the management team forced him to abandon the project.

I am abandoning the the $Ghost project. Management is incapable of making a success of the project. It will, without a doubt fail. lI tried to explain the fundamental principles of management, but they fell on deaf ears. My apologies to those that I led astray" Sorry.

— John McAfee (@officialmcafee) August 19, 2020

John McAfee leaves Ghost token project

McAfee’s move to abandon the project seems surprising, as cybersecurity entrepreneur commended the project on twitter just a week ago. Last week on Aug.13, McAfee wrote on his Twitter account that:

“I have labored my entire life to reach the point where I could produce an Ecosystem as powerful and groundbreaking as the Ghost Exchange, the Ghost coin and the Ghost phone[…] $GHOST is the future.”

In his recent announcement on Twitter, john condemned the project and suggested that it was bound to fail. He also apologized to all that he had misled to join the Ghost token project. However, the veteran tech expert did not leave the project in a very pleasant situation. The firm labeled him as a “loose cannon,” and he retaliated by marking one of the members as an “idiot.”

According to John, his decision to leave the project was triggered by his deep frustration with the project management team. To reflect McAfee’s disappointment at the project, he said he would take off his Ghost tattoo, which he received two months ago in honor of Ghost Token.

Ghost project to run even after McAfee’s departure

McAfee ‘s move to abandon his Ghost project may seem catastrophic in the short term, according to a member of the project, the project is still going to run. He suggested that the departure of the McAfee would not affect the Ghost blockchain in any way.
On the contrary, after McAfee ‘s departure announcement, the price of Ghost tokens declined by about 50 percent. The price of the token fell down from $0.61 to $0.31 within 24 hours.

John McCafee’s McAfeeDEX to integrate Tron blockchain soon as announcement stirs the market

November 2, 2019 by Akash Anand

John McAfee, the famous cryptocurrency evangelist, has made a name for himself in the space after many developments and feuds with other proponents of digital assets. McAfee again shook the crypto world after he announced that the McAfeeDex would be integrated on the Tron blockchain on November 8th. With the release, the decentralized exchange will also begin supporting TRC10 and TRC20 tokens.

In a recent interview with CyberHub Engage, the infamous founder of McAfee industries reinforced his belief in cryptocurrency over fiat and even claimed that Bitcoin and other assets were on their way up to trump traditional payment methods. During the interview, he started by saying:

“For the first time in 75 years, we (the general public) have been the most powerful weapon (Bitcoin). One that can unlock the door to your cage. Freedom, however you define it, is based on financial freedom.”

He also spoke about how McAfeeDEX will be set in a way that regulatory authorities will not be able to seize control of the assets held within. The exchange is created on the Ethereum platform, and the Vitalik Buterin founded cryptocurrency’s “world supercomputer” ideology was the reason why it was chosen for the task. The computer scientist continued:

“In the 8th of November, we will include Tron, and by the first quarter (2020), EOS, Binance Coin and Neo. And then we’ll have cross chains before the first quarter. It will be Binance, but free.”

McAfee even created an analogy to prove that banking on the blockchain is much safer than banking on central banking servers. He further opined that countries like China had created a sense of fear among those who consider money precious.

China had recently created Ripple effects in the cryptocurrency industry when the Red Dragon announced that they would be taking more positive steps towards the adoption of blockchain technology.

Statements made by Chinese premier Xi Jinping was one of the main reasons why McAfee claimed that governments had too much control of their citizens’ capital. Speaking of security, the Bitcoin proponent added:

“A bank vault, which is impenetrable, can’t be blamed if the clerk gives the code. That is not the vaults fault. Same is with blockchain.”

McAfeeDex will help power trading operations on the exchange and will get 0.05 percent off every trade. The users will be charged $395 per installation of such a port. The latest announcement comes a year after the crypto baron announced that he was launching a groundbreaking crypto product.

Dogecoin price analysis: Is the joke coin ready to see explosive growth?

July 3, 2019 by Ali Raza

Dogecoin has been in the news quite frequently in recent times. Some will attribute it to Elon Musk, the founder of electric car manufacturer Tesla, and a tech visionary personality, who became the CEO of the coin. Of course, Musk becoming CEO was as much a joke as the launch of Dogecoin itself.

However, Dogecoin is not hitting the news only because of a famous billionaire’s Twitter prank, but because of a slide in its price that has been talked about in cryptocurrency circles for quite a while now. Subsequently, proponents of the coin, including the legendary McAfee, are adamant that the price will soar, taking it to the moon in terms of relative worth.

Dogecoin is not like the others

John McAfee had a few words to say about Dogecoin on the 27th of May that many in the community are echoing. Unlike some of McAfee’s rants, this has some solid thinking behind it. Dogecoin specifically, and the cryptocurrency market in general, do not follow the laws of the stock market. They follow relatively different rules that are divorced from the notion of traditional views of inherent value.

Crypto’s inherent value is usage-based – how many people feel a need to use a coin because of its ease of use. The underlying technology isn’t as important as the reason people use technology. This is something that has been particularly illustrated by Skype. It is an aging technology that is slower and much more fragile in the back end than anything else.

Skype has had a headstart on the mobile phone by a few years at least. Not too long ago, Whatsapp and Viber took market share away from Skype to the point that older people will use it exclusively to talk with their relatives overseas. Or maybe only some businesses would use it for meetings.

The catch? Whatsapp and Viber are both more straightforward to use than Skype – and that is what drives adoption.

The technology might be better, they might have the ever-presence of mobile phones on their side, but the fact remains that they are far, far easier to use than Skype.

https://twitter.com/QuodSemper/status/1145828462134996993

This is also the reason why many in the community are demanding that Binance and Coinbase introduce Dogecoin into their offerings. There is a demand that needs to be met. If the community can push these giants crypto exchanges of the world to kowtow to them, then it will be a significant victory.

Curves looking positive

The overall negative trend that Dogecoin has been seeing is nearing a bottom, and there has been a sharp uptick in price from a low of $0.0030 to a more stable level of $0.0035. The trend shows that Dogecoin is hitting the second major bottoming out and that while bearish sentiment might prevail for a time, it will be hitting highs of $0.004 sooner rather than later.

What the highs of the coin might reach given enough time is impossible to predict – but the smart money is in the Dogecoin gaining substantial value once this bottoming out gets finished.

Crypto bull John McAfee to sue Craig Wright aka Faketoshi

June 8, 2019 by Ali Qamar

Craig Wright

Do you know who Satoshi Nakamoto is? Of course, you don’t. Nobody does. We all know what he did, which was to create Bitcoin and blockchain technology, but nobody knows who he is because he’s a very competent expert in cryptographic technology, so he was able to publish the Bitcoin white paper and to launch the Bitcoin network without revealing his real identity. He was probably quite fond of superhero comic books and movies when he was younger.

But two persons in the world have publicly assured the planet that they know who Satoshi is: Craig Wright and John McAfee. Mr. McAfee claims that Satoshi is a personal friend, and he’s even provided a few personal details about Satoshi’s character and personality. Craig Wright, on the other hand, claims that he is Satoshi, no less. He’s never provided good evidence, nevertheless.

Mr. Wright’s claims have been taken with varying degrees of seriousness. Most people don’t take him at face value at all, and he’s earned the name of “Faketoshi” which he hates. But he’s also managed to get enough prestige as “Satoshi” that he was able to force a fork within the Bitcoin Cash project, so Bitcoin Cash SV (Satoshi’s Vision) was created under Mr. Wright’s leadership, and it’s been a disaster for the most part.

John McAfee

Mr. McAfee is one of the most influential technological entrepreneurs of the age. He single-handedly pioneered the digital security industry when he created McAfee antivirus. Mr.McAfee is a crypto bull now as he is very optimistic about the future of this industry.

He says he knows Satoshi personally and that he could push him to reveal himself. Additionally, he hates Mr. Wright for claiming credit that, in his view, does not belong to him at all.

He’s not gone against Mr. Wright except for tweets and other informal means. But now, Mr. Craig has been moving to sue those who doubt his claims, and Mr. McAfee is not so happy about that, so it seems he’s ready to get a bit more proactive. His latest tweet showed that:

I am the real Craig Wright. I can prove it. Absolutely. I'm filing a patent on my existence as Craig Wright. I can prove I am him at a finger's snap. But I'm not going to. You must simply believe me. I will be suing Craig, soon, for impersonating me. Unlike me, he is serveable.

— John McAfee (@officialmcafee) June 7, 2019

There are plenty of feuds in the cryptosphere, of course, so why should you or anybody else care about this one in particular? Well, this one is not just your run-of-the-mill feud. This one could end up revealing Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity, which makes it very relevant, unlike so many other disputes that amount to nothing more than silly catfights.

The thing is, Mr. McAfee likes to tweet stuff a tiny bit too much. So there’s every chance that he will not sue Mr. Wright at all. Not too long ago he said he would reveal Satoshi’s identity, but desisted from that because he had tax problems back in the US. So we wouldn’t be surprised if he never sues Craig Wright for whatever reason. On the other hand, if he does, it will be a fascinating thing to watch.

John McAfee and Satoshi’s true identity

April 30, 2019 by Ali Qamar

McAfee

John McAfee is a very successful technological businessman who also has something of a reputation as a Maverick. He founded the company that bears his name, and that was a pioneering force in digital security. He’s smart, colorful, controversial, rich, and he likes to speak when he feels like it, using his Twitter account from his home at the Bahamas.

The new fork in the Bitcoin Cash project was very annoying for Mr. McAfee. Bitcoin Cash became two different blockchains. One is Bitcoin Cash ABC (which recovered pretty quickly from the split and has been performing reasonably well in the market) and Bitcoin SV (SV stand’s for Satoshi’s vision) which has been an unmitigated disaster.

Craig Wright

Bitcoin Cash Satoshi’s Vision is named like that because it came to life because of Craig Wright’s influence within the Bitcoin Cash community. This is the man who’s claimed to be none other than Satoshi Nakamoto, the man behind Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency revolution.

While most cryptonauts (as far as we can tell, there’s no hard data on this) are more than skeptic about Mr. Wright’s claims, there is a small number of people in the world who actually take Mr. Wright at face value. That’s given him quite a bit of prestige and influence in certain circles, and this annoys the hell out of John McAfee.

Mr. McAfee has used his Twitter account to express his discontent. He says that he personally knows who Satoshi Nakamoto is. The hacking expert is sick of scammers trying to hijack Nakamoto’s name and merits and using them to deteriorate the cryptosphere as a whole.

He’s got a particular beef to pick with Wright as he said in a tweet. He believes that the alleged Satoshi’s enhanced reputation is the only reason that he was able to come up with BSV which is a “scam that hurt us all.”

So he decided to do something about it: to push things so that Satoshi Nakamoto finally comes forward and reveals himself.

For several days he started offering clues about Satoshi’s real identity so that his true identity can be narrowed down or so that he stops hiding. So what do we know so far? He’s not the CIA, or any agency, or any of the world’s governments.

While that seems a silly thing to clarify, it’s the notion of choice for conspiracy theorists. He lives in the USA. There is no single man behind the development of Bitcoin’s network and launch, but it was instead done by a group of people. But the Bitcoin whitepaper has only one author.

And that’s as much as we know from Mr. McAfee. And then the manure hit the fan.

Further suspense

It turned out that Mr. McAfee is wanted by the IRS because of tax-related problems. Since he lives in the Bahamas, he could face an extradition process if the American government wants him badly enough. That hasn’t happened yet, but as the tycoon’s lawyers advised him that keeping up the Satoshi things could only complicate his legal status, he’s desisted from telling us all who the Bitcoin creator really is. At least for the time being. You can actually read the letter from the lawyer (Mario A. Gray, an expert in extradition processes) at the Twitter account in question.

So when will we find out who Nakamoto is? We have no idea. But it seems we could learn his identity before we expected.

Legendary John McAfee joins Tron-based BeatzCoin as an adviser

March 21, 2019 by Naveed Iqbal

Never mind whether positively or negatively, the cryptocurrency big whale as well as the US presidential expectant, John McAfee will always be in the news.

It has happened again. But this time around, like most in the recent past, the most interesting as well as the controversial figure has hit the crypto world with news that he’s taking a position as an advisor for BeatzCoin and the VibraVid platform.

Welcome Aboard Master of Many Trades

For crypto enthusiasts, John McAfee is not a new name, and for the rest, the fact that he was once a presidential aspirant (maybe will be again) makes him a familiar figure for the world too. And of course, he being the founder of McAfee antivirus is yet another reason for his popularity.

The great news today is that McAfee has joined BeatzCoin and VibraVid platform’s advisory team. According to BeatzCoin, McAfee will be assisting the team as they push to achieve their objectives as well as in helping them gain a stronger influence in the music alongside the blockchain industry.

It is with our greatest #honor to announce the addition of @officialmcafee as an #Advisor for #BeatzCoin and the #VibraVid #Platform. John will assist the #team in gaining a stronger #influence in the #music and #blockchain #industry. Welcome aboard.https://t.co/4caZSFYQKn pic.twitter.com/2YKYcTron WeeklyzP

— BeatzCoin (@BeatzCoin) March 21, 2019

The godfather of antivirus software has for a while been in the limelight of the crypto movement throwing his foot in advertising a plethora of blockchain ventures as well as initial coin offerings (ICOs). The crypto crusader has always continued to preach the gospel and support blockchain technology as well as the crypto assets.

The “Love” for BeatzCoin (BTZC)

If you thought the McAfee is making headlines for the first time with VibraVid platform, you’re wrong.

Early during the month when the platform gave an update about the release of their 3rd stage in development, McAfee was fast to give his thumbs up. In his tweet at that time, he declared his love for VibraVid, a decentralized platform powered by Tron, which is looking to change the way individuals interact with digital content.

For many, VibraVid has been foreseen as the potential YouTube killer, and now that they have added the “mighty” John McAfee as one of the advisors, the future looks even brighter.

Besides, McAfee has made it clear more multiple times that his next (2020) US presidential campaign will entirely be about cryptos. Imagine a president who happens to be an advisor of BeatzCoin team? Whether that remains only in dreams or bound to happen, one thing is for sure, VibraVid platform may be on its way up by making every right decision in their bid to “kill” YouTube after all.
