Bitcoin Search Interest Spikes in Africa and South America

June 17, 2020 by Arnold Kirimi

Google trend information recorded by Blockchaincentre.net shows that the Bitcoin search interest is concentrated in Africa and South America worldwide through the internet. Kenya and Brazil lead in global search interest for cryptocurrency, with 94.7 percent and 92.6 percent respectively, according to the results.

Bitcoin Search Interest

Bitcoin Search interest in the African continent

The data means that in the cryptocurrency industry, both Africa and South America could potentially become critical players.

The site ‘s data map, claims that Bitcoin search interest dominates Africa. According to the data, 94.7 percent of Google searches are dominated by East African nation, Kenya, for all cryptocurrencies in the world, including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Cardano, Dogecoin, Ethereum, IOTA, Litecoin, Monero, XRP, and Tron,

African countries follow the trend in Africa with 89.4 percent and 89 percent respectively, Nigeria and South Africa follow. The speakers of the Nigerian House of Representatives proposed a firm regulatory structure for the digital currencies in the West African nation back in July 2019.

Additionally, the cryptocurrency industry is also becoming serious about South Africa, which owns about 13 per cent of the continent’s crypto-wealth. In April, the financial watchdog of the country released a policy paper stating that virtual assets and industry-wide activities “can no longer remain outside the regulatory perimeter.”

Bitcoin, the answer to COVID-19?

In the top ten countries with the highest search interest in bitcoin, four nations represent South America compared to the three in Africa. Brazil leads with a Bitcoin interest search of 92.6 percent in South America; followed by Chile and Ecuador with approximately 89 per cent. Argentina comes last with 87 per cent interest among the continent ‘s top ten.

Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic appears to have triggered interest in the countries mentioned. Back in April, P2P bitcoin trading volume reached record high in Argentina , Chile and Venezuela. Nevertheless, in the top ten nations with the highest bitcoin search interest on the map, Venezuela has been unable to make it.

New African Bitcoin Documentary to Stream on Amazon Prime

May 22, 2020 by Arnold Kirimi

The demand for Bitcoin is still rising across Africa in spite of the extensive economic crisis according to data by P2P exchanges Paxful and LocalBitcoins. Beginning this Friday, a new African Bitcoin documentary will begin streaming on Amazon Prime showing how Bitcoin is revolutionizing the continent.

Well, it turns out that the African continent is a perfect test centre for Bitcoin after all, as per the new Amazon Prime Bitcoin documentary and its accompanying report. The documentary was created by South African filmmaker Tamarin Gerriety, in partnership with cryptocurrency exchange firm Luno for award-winning production house  Documinute, based in South Africa.

New African Bitcoin Documentary to begin on Friday

The new documentary will feature big industry players such as the SatoshiCenter founder r Alakanani Itireleng of Botswana and South Africa-based Monero creator Riccardo Spagni. The documentary shows the varying lifestyles of the two industry players, from Alakanani’s farm and Spagni’s luxurious urban rooftop.

In Alakanani’s story, Bitcoin arrived too late for her son. Her son passed on before she could raise funds to cater for his costly surgery. However sad, it was through trying to save his son’s Paco life that Alakanani learnt about Bitcoin. Whatever she assimilated about the flagship digital currency delighted her- and like many people scattered around the world, she began her Bitcoin evangelism journey.

In her country, Alakanani is now referred to as  Botswana’s Bitcoin Lady. After learning about Bitcoin, she founded the nonprofit SatoshiCenter where she educates other Africans on how to use Bitcoin and how to transform their lives using the flagship cryptocurrency. Alakanani is one of the inspirational African figures featured in the new Amazon Prime Bitcoin documentary dubbed: Banking on Africa: The Bitcoin Revolution.

Kenya’s Increased Engagement in Bitcoin Trading Underlines Africa’s Potential for the Future

April 16, 2020 by Utkarsh Gupta

Over the past two or three years, the involvement of some African nations in crypto has become quite evident. A lot of bitcoin-related trading activity can be seen in different countries, and according to Arcane Research’s recent report, bitcoin trading in Kenya has picked up pace over the past month.

In the midst of the global lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was noted that Bitcoin‘s trading volume over the last seven days has crossed a major milestone of 100 BTC per week in Paxful Exchange.

Although the volume is particularly lower compared to what can usually be seen in major exchanges, the engagement of users was more important as it indicated that people were not taking their eye of the BTC market.
