XRPL Deploys Post-Quantum ML-DSA Signatures, Strengthening Blockchain Security

XRPL Deploys Post-Quantum ML-DSA Signatures, Strengthening Blockchain Security

XRP Ledger (XRPL) is now one of the first blockchains to support post-quantum ML DSA signatures on its alphanet, helping to prevent potential future threats from quantum computers. This is part of a Google-funded research project aimed at testing the strength of advanced cryptography techniques for blockchains.

The implementation follows the introduction of Dilithium cryptography by XRPL in December 2025, which is a post-quantum signature method aiming to provide enhanced security for transactions against possible threats to the security of existing elliptic curve encryption used in popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Research conducted in the academic community has shown that XRPL ranks among the leading blockchains in utilizing advanced quantum-resistant cryptography. The application of ML-DSA signatures and Dilithium-based transactions ensures enhanced security and trust among users and entities, which can be considered a proactive response to technological risks.

XRPL Advances Quantum Security Strategy

Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, stated in an interview conducted in March 2026 that, although quantum computing is not a current threat to blockchain technology, adopting quantum-resistant solutions early on has put XRPL at an advantage compared to its competitors.

While quantum computing is not an immediate threat, networks that are preparing today will benefit from strategic advantages tomorrow, according to Armstrong.

As blockchain technology is in a state of constant evolution, security is as important as speed and scalability. XRPL’s focus on post-quantum cryptography may help the network achieve greater confidence among users and institutional investors, as well as serve as a template for other blockchain developers.
