February 22, 2025 by Lipika Deka

  • Bybit CEO Ben Zhou shares Chinese police warning labeling Pi Network a scam.
  • Rumors spread about Bitget deleting Pi-related posts amid delisting speculation.
  • Controversy over alleged pyramid schemes in China adds to Pi Network scrutiny.

Pi Network community and Bybit CEO Ben Zhou are engaged in a heated debate over claims of delisting and listing refusals. The dispute occurs amidst rising anticipation for the February 20, mainnet launch.

The tensions began when a community member alleged that Bybit was losing market share and Zhou’s negative comments arose from a listing rejection. In response, Zhou asserted that the exchange never requested the listing in the first place and that the allegations were “complete nonsense.”

He then shared a link of an official Chinese police warning post from 2023, that labelled the crypto project as a scam targeting elderly individuals and potentially leading to data leaks and pension losses. Bybit CEO also cited “multiple other reports” questioning Pi Network’s legitimacy and its involvement in pyramid schemes in China.

If the project is legitimate and straight up, then you should come forth and address these report so everyone can understand , but instead you choose to make up shit and do these childish attack with no ground. Yes, I still think you are a scam, and no , Bybit will not list scam.

Amidst the continuing back-and-forth, Zhou stood firm, asserting his personal belief that Pi Network is a scam, and reiterated Bybit’s stance against listing such projects. He criticized its approach, claiming it engage in “childish attacks with no ground” instead of directly addressing the legitimacy concerns raised in the reports.

Ronaldinho’s $61M Crypto Pyramid Scheme Defense: Testimony Unveiled

September 1, 2023 by Aishwarya shashikumar

Retired soccer icon Ronaldinho Gaúcho has found himself entangled in the world of cryptocurrency, as he recently testified at a congressional hearing in Brazil to disavow any association with a purported crypto pyramid scheme bearing his name. The alleged scheme, known as “18kRonaldinho,” promised extravagant 2% daily returns on cryptocurrency investments. However, Ronaldinho vehemently denied his involvement and insisted that he was a victim of the fraudulent operation.

During the parliamentary committee inquiry on August 31, Ronaldinho presented evidence demonstrating that he had never partnered with the company behind 18kRonaldinho. He contended that his name and likeness were exploited without his consent. Images from the company’s marketing materials were displayed during the hearing, featuring Ronaldinho prominently. The former soccer star clarified that these images were taken as part of a contract he signed in July 2019 with a subsidiary of the company, focusing on the sale of watches. However, he emphasized that the contract was terminated in October of the same year and was never executed.

When queried by the inquiry’s president, Aureo Ribeiro, about whether he intended to reimburse those who invested in the company, Ronaldinho declined to provide an answer. He also remained silent when asked about the $61 million lawsuit filed against the firm, which sought damages resulting from the alleged scheme. The enigmatic responses from Ronaldinho left the committee members and spectators puzzled, eager to uncover the truth behind his involvement.

Inquiry Unveiled: 11 Crypto Schemes Under Scrutiny

Ronaldinho’s appearance before the parliamentary committee marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation into crypto pyramid schemes in Brazil. The inquiry, launched in June, aims to probe 11 companies that allegedly lured investors with promises of lucrative returns using cryptocurrency. Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission raised concerns about these companies, leading to a thorough examination by the country’s Chamber of Deputies.

Ronaldinho’s previous nonattendance at two hearings added to the intrigue surrounding the case. His assertion that adverse weather conditions prevented him from attending one of the hearings left some skeptical. However, the August 31 hearing served as his final opportunity to address Congress. Had he not appeared, Ronaldinho could have faced fines or even arrest, with authorities forcibly compelling his presence.

As the investigation into the alleged crypto pyramid schemes continues, Ronaldinho’s denial of involvement raises critical questions about the extent to which individuals’ identities can be exploited in the realm of cryptocurrency. The broader implications of such cases highlight the importance of regulatory oversight and the need to safeguard investors from fraudulent schemes in the evolving landscape of digital finance.

Elon Musk sued for $258 billion over alleged Dogecoin pyramid scheme

June 17, 2022 by 031039

A Dogecoin investor has sued Elon Musk for $258 billion. The Tesla CEO has been accused of running a pyramid scheme to support the cryptocurrency.

Plaintiff Keith Johnson in his complaint filed in the Federal Court in Manhattan accused Musk and his companies Tesla Inc and Space X of racketeering and promoting Dogecoin and letting the price up only to see it tumble down.

The complaint said that despite being aware of the depleting value of the OG crypto meme coin since 2019, Musk had used his position of being the richest man in the world to manipulate the Dogecoin pyramid scheme and use it for profit and amusement.

The complaint also consisted of comments from Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and others questioning the value of the cryptocurrency. Most of them have been against the crypto market let alone the meme crypto.

Additionally, Johnson is seeking $86 billion in damages representing the decline in Dogecoin’s market value since May 2021. He would like Musk to reimburse this sum, plus pay double that in damages-an additional $172 billion.

Dogecoin to go under the gambling category?

Johnson named Musk’s Tesla Electric carmaker in the suit because it accepts the cryptocurrency as payment for many of its products. Space X was also included after naming one of its products after the crypto meme coin.

He also wants Musk and his companies to get blocked from promoting the cryptocurrency and urged the Judges to announce that trading Dogecoin is gambling under Federal and New York law.

The complaint also said that Dogecoin’s sell-off began during the time when Musk had been hosting the show Saturday Night Live and playing a fictitious financial expert on a “weekend update” segment called the crypto “a hustle.”

At press time, the meme crypto was trading at $0.05 down from its May 2021 peak.
