Bitcoin Should Be Made The ‘Women’s Currency’, Suggests Tim Draper

September 16, 2020 by Sahana Kiran

The crypto-verse has a plurality of men as compared to women, and nowadays women are stepping up and taking a keen interest in cryptocurrencies. In a recent interview with prominent billionaire and Venture Capitalist, Tim Draper went on to point out the same when stressing the disparity in the number of men and women in the industry.

Criminals Use The Dollar Not Crypto

Appearing in an interview with Patrick Tsang on Anything Is Possible, Draper revealed how Bitcoin could be made a women’s currency. Taking a leaf out of history, Draper pointed out that early adopters are usually men, nevertheless, women have undoubtedly taken a step towards change.

He added,

“They are coming into the workforce. They are starting companies, they are changing all of that. I mean this is one of those times for women to say let’s get in front of this, let’s make Bitcoin the women’s currency.”

Tsang stressed on how 80% of retail entails women, however, only one in 15 crypto wallets is a woman while the rest are men. Draper went on to highlight how women could benefit by using crypto to shop. The billionaire suggested that women could save 2.5% to about 4% during every purchase as the aforementioned figures are currently going to “those bankers with fancy suits.”

The pandemic left the streets of the world empty as everyone was mandated to stay at home. While several individuals were developing new hobbies and engaging in different activities to steer away from trying times, the crypto industry welcomed many new members into the ecosystem. Elaborating on the same, Draper pointed out that women were beginning to experiment with cryptocurrencies since everyone has been stuck at home.

“If I could send you money right now, the absolute easiest way for me to do it would be to send you Bitcoin from a ledger. [….] I think we got a new currency, it’s better than anything else out there. It is not tied to any political forces, it is more secure and it’s time for women to jump on board.”

A report released by CoinMarketCap during the peak of the pandemic also pointed out that the number of women in the crypto sphere had surged by 43.24% in the Q1 of 2020.

Furthermore, speaking about government-controlled fiat currencies, Draper revealed how he went from saying “this crypto thing is for criminals” to widely endorsing crypto and funding several crypto projects. Contrary to what the world pictures crypto as Draper proposed that one must be using dollars to be a criminal as nobody can trace the whereabouts of the dollar. Crypto, however, is on the blockchain and is secure.
