BNB Greenfield Launches Congo Testnet: Revolutionizing Data Ownership In Web3

April 12, 2023 by Mishal Ali

BNB Greenfield, a decentralized blockchain and storage platform, launched its first test network called “Congo” on April 10, 2023. The test network allows developers to become validators, storage providers (SPs), and decentralized application (dApp) builders.

The SPs cooperate with the test network verification nodes to provide complete storage services. The community has the opportunity to take part in the decentralized storage tech stack and influence the direction of data ownership in Web3 through the Greenfield Testnet “Congo.”

According to the blog post, the Greenfield platform uses BNB tokens and aims to facilitate decentralized data management and access. The platform links data ownership with the DeFi context of the Binance Smart Chain (BSC), thereby revolutionizing the data economy.

With the launch of Greenfield’s first test network, developers can explore various features such as account creation, access control, data storage, storage provision, node validation, cross-chain communication, and staking.

BNB Token Use in Greenfield Storage & Trading

The BNB token will extend its use to large-scale data storage and trading, enhancing its value over time. The Greenfield platform intends to provide decentralized storage with the quickest data service possible and cost-effective features similar to Web 2 cloud storage.

The blog post also stated that with the use of a straightforward software development kit (SDK) and little further programming, BSC dApps could interface with Greenfield due to the platform’s native relayer, which connects BSC and Greenfield.

Greenfield’s decentralized storage system stands out from existing centralized and decentralized storage systems for its three key components. First, users own the data and can grant permissions either manually or programmatically.

Second, the platform is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing Ethereum-compatible addresses to create and manage data. Third, Greenfield provides developers with similar application programming interface (API) primitives and performance as popular existing Web2 cloud storage, with performance comparable to the commercial cloud.

Greenfield’s first test network is an opportunity for developers to refine and build upon the platform’s robust foundation in forthcoming Testnet versions. The platform will soon launch its mainnet in Q3, which will have different participation rules than the Testnet.

Also, developers may take part in the Zero2Hero Hackathon’s Greenfield track and submit funding applications to expand on Greenfield, as per the blog post.

Nevertheless, the launch of Greenfield’s first test network, “Congo,” is a significant milestone in implementing the core features outlined in the whitepaper.

With the platform’s focus on data ownership and the data economy, the launch of the Testnet provides a significant opportunity for developers to shape the future of data ownership in Web3.
