Cardano Founder Makes A Bold Offer To Algorand: Community’s Hilarious Response

Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson has renewed his sidechain pitch, this time to blockchain protocol Algorand, saying it would be a prudent move for the layer-1 network. His remarks were in reaction to a tweet from John Woods, the Algorand Foundation’s Chief Technical Officer, who discussed the status of staking on its platform.

In the video update, Woods emphasized how Algorand is superior to conventional PoS blockchains such as Ethereum or, for that matter, Cardano [ADA], due to its “pure Proof-of-Stake [PoS]” method that places more emphasis on rewarding individuals than pools. But in his attempt to make the comparison, he referred to Cardano as the “leading PoS protocol.”

Hoskinson may have been inspired by this to brag about ADA’s staking abilities and make the pitch to Algorand to become a sidechain, claiming that it would be a sensible move and maximize its staking opportunities.

Nevertheless, Hoskinson’s proposition was met with hilarious reactions, with one member replying with a meme that jokingly urged him to not worry and go to sleep. Algorand is in the spotlight after its largest decentralized finance [DeFi] protocol, Algofi, announced the closure of its platform. The project contributed more than 50% to Algorand’s total value locked [TVL].

While the Algorand team has yet to respond to Hoskinson’s proposal, Cardano’s research wing, IOG, has recently built a toolkit for developing custom sidechains. Its Ouroboros consensus protocol has endured the test of time, with millions of wallet addresses and thousands of independent stake pools operating without a single failure since its launch in 2017.

This isn’t the first time Hoskinson has made an open call. In December 2022, the CEO also extended an offer to Solana, urging it to become a sidechain of Cardano.

Cardano Boss Throws Sidechain Proposals

Hoskinson made the offer in response to a community member’s tweet inquiring whether or not Solana should become a Cardano sidechain. He said Solana should just “speak the word” to become a sidechain, attaching a clip from the action role-playing dungeon crawler video game Diablo.

Prior to that, the crypto entrepreneur also proposed that Dogecoin would gain more utility on Twitter if it came on to Cardano as a sidechain. Hoskinson at the time went ahead to say that he would migrate Dogecoin to Cardano for free and throw in the ability for the meme coin to use smart contracts.
