Cardano’s Newest Node Since Vasil Upgrade Gains Momentum

November 18, 2022 by Lipika Deka

Cardano’s latest node version 1.35.4 deployed after the Vasil hard fork on Nov 7 has a new update, As per Cardano Explorer, the latest version produced 11% of blocks in a span of eight hours: 10.1% by total stake (stake from pools using the latest version/total stake) and 6.8% by count (upgraded pools/all pools).

Notes published by GitHub stated that Node 1.35.4 facilitates cross-chain development in the Cardano ecosystem. The default ledger era for transaction commands was changed to Babbage as part of some CLI improvements. SECP, or more specifically SECP 256k1, is a popular elliptic curve.

The earlier version of node 1.35.3 [which is said to provide “full Vasil era capabilities”] invited a lot of criticisms because it was unable to sync with the original testnet & kept on running on two new testnets with no block history.

Following the discovery of a bug, Cardano released node 1.35.3 but became incompatible with the original testnet prompting a developer by the name of Adam Dean to say that the testnet was “catastrophically” broken.

Dean voiced his concern for the supposed “rush” of the Vasil hard fork made him uneasy and urged IOK and founder Charles Hoskinson to deploy the appropriate Disaster Recovering tools as disclosed during the testnet launch.

Hoskinson responded that everyone, including the network’s stake pool operators, had rigorously tested the code for months (SPOs).

But the founder appeared puzzled at the “noise” surrounding the stake pool operators’ upgrade before adding that “the code that was an issue on the testnet has been removed.”

Meanwhile, the Cardano community’s expectations soared to a new high following a special announcement by Hoskinson who revealed that he had been working on it for the past four years.

Cardano Heading For Another Chapter

Cardano will soon enter the Voltaire era, allowing the network to demonstrate to the sector “how to do decentralized governance,” in the words of its founder.

The network’s plan states that Voltaire will serve as the foundation for Cardano’s development into a “fully decentralized” blockchain network. The five phases are Byron, Shelley, Goguen, Basho, and Voltaire.

The Byron phase was Cardano‘s initial iteration, enabling users to purchase and sell ADA on a federated network powered by Ouroboros Classic.
