The Ethereum Foundation has officially announced that Devcon 7, the much-anticipated annual gathering of the Ethereum community, will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 12 to 15, 2024. The decision to host the event in Southeast Asia reflects the foundation’s recognition of the region’s burgeoning potential in the cryptocurrency world, marked by a swift increase in adoption.
Ethereum’s Visionary Expansion
In a recent blog post, Expressing gratitude for the community’s patience amid speculation about the event’s location, the Ethereum Foundation revealed its decision to expand Devcon’s impact on regional Ethereum communities. The extra time leading up to Devcon 7 will enable the foundation to engage more deeply with these local communities, providing support and empowerment in a more meaningful manner.
In a bid to make Devcon 7 a more inclusive and regionally focused affair, the foundation has decided to name the event “Devcon Southeast Asia” instead of tying it solely to the host city’s name. The move aligns with their vision to envelop the entire Southeast Asia region in the Devcon experience.
The Ethereum community in Southeast Asia has been gaining prominence, with countries like Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand leading in the Global Crypto Adoption Index. The decision to hold Devcon in Bangkok, known for its unique blend of tradition and modernity, signifies the foundation’s strategic choice for a venue that is both suitable and globally accessible.
To support the growth of Ethereum events, grassroots communities, and educational initiatives across Southeast Asia, the foundation has initiated the Road To Devcon (RTD) Grants round in recent months. The response from countries such as Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, and Vietnam has been enthusiastic, showcasing the region’s eagerness to contribute to the Ethereum ecosystem.
However, as the foundation encourages continuous community involvement, a call has also been made for projects and proposals from individuals and groups based in Southeast Asia. The diverse and ever-evolving Ethereum community is at the heart of what makes Devcon special, and the foundation is eager to hear from participants worldwide as they set their sights on Devcon 7, shaping the event into a truly collaborative and inclusive experience.
