Ethereum Foundation Chooses Southeast Asia As Venue For Devcon 7 In 2024

March 1, 2023 by Ammar Raza

The Ethereum Foundation has announced that Devcon 7, the Ethereum developer conference, will be held in Southeast Asia in 2024. The decision was made to have a greater impact on the regional Ethereum community and to allow more time for it to mature and develop.

The event will bring together the community, bridge with outside communities, and welcome newcomers to Ethereum. Southeast Asia has a growing and untapped Ethereum community.

Four countries in the region rank in the top 20 of the Global Crypto Adoption Index, with Vietnam and the Philippines at the top two. Devcon 7 in Southeast Asia will provide a platform for this new, active, diverse, and large community to showcase their work on the world Ethereum stage.

The announcement stated that the decision to hold the event in 2024 was made to allow more time for projects and the protocol to advance and improve, so speakers can share something truly significant. This will also give the organizers more time to plan and make the event top-notch again.

The long wait for the event will create higher anticipation and make it more accessible for those who want to participate but cannot travel to Devcon every year.

Ethereum Community To Take Center Stage At Devcon 7

Ethereum events and communities are emerging globally, and the Foundation is subtracting so that others can add. The Foundation is giving room for local community events to grow further and become more diverse participants in the Ethereum ecosystem.

Specific locations within Southeast Asia are still being evaluated, and the final decision will be based on a number of factors, including venue availability. The Foundation accepts proposals from Southeast Asian communities until March 15, 2023.

The different places in the region, from the bustling streets of Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur to the beautiful beaches of Bali and Phuket, the majestic mountains of Vietnam, and more, offer exciting possibilities for the venue.

The Ethereum community is still western-dominated, despite the practical use of crypto in Southeast Asia. The Foundation’s decision to bring Devcon to Southeast Asia is in line with its goal of increasing diversity within the ETH community and reaching more local communities.

The Foundation invites everyone to be part of their journey and help shape the future of Devcon by submitting Devcon Improvement Proposals (DIPs). They encourage attendance at other community-driven events and sponsorships to strengthen the builder ecosystem of local communities.

However, scheduling Devcon 7 for 2024 in Southeast Asia is expected to have a significant impact on each attendee and the ETH community as a whole.
