Pi Network

Pi Network has made another announcement regarding the protocol update by urging all its nodes operating in the Mainnet to upgrade to Protocol v25 if they haven’t done so already. This is because, according to the network, the upgrade will keep the blockchain connected.

As per the Pi Core Team, most Mainnet node runners have already shifted to the updated version of the protocol. It was mentioned by the team that the process is very easy and takes a couple of minutes only, just like other previous upgrades done before.

Reminder for all Pi Mainnet Node operators: The majority of Mainnet node operators have already successfully upgraded to Protocol v25. If you have not yet upgraded your node, please do so at your earliest convenience to remain connected to the network.

It was established that the majority of the nodes are working with the help of Protocol v25 successfully. The members of the team said that everything went smoothly and there was no disruption during this phase at all.

Pi Network is concentrating its efforts on the operators that haven’t yet updated their systems, urging them to do so before they face any problems connecting.

How do Pi Network Nodes Function?

The Pi Network nodes work in a different manner compared to conventional blockchain mining networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum because Pi uses a consensus protocol, which is based on the Stellar Consensus Protocol.

In this network, nodes group themselves into clusters of trusted links called quorum slices, which enable the network to reach consensus about transactions through an extended trust model based on security circles created by users.

Different Roles in the Network

Node software is used on desktops/laptops instead of cellphones. There are three types of roles that Pi Network offers to its users. Using the Computer App, users are able to verify their balance and use some functionalities without participating in the process of verifying transactions.

Node verifies transactions and participates in the activities of the blockchain once chosen. SuperNode takes the responsibility of ensuring the consensus of the network, which requires high availability and a reliable internet connection.

The selection of nodes and supernodes is influenced by various aspects like performance, connection, prior contribution to the community, and trust level earned via security circles. Participants who are eligible should undergo the KYC process to be able to join the network.

No Deadline, But Urgent Update Recommended

Although Pi Network does not have a definite date by which the protocol needs to be updated, it is highly recommended that the upgrade be done soon. Delaying the upgrade may lead to the temporary loss of connection to the network.

According to the Core Team, the full procedure has been provided, and thus, the upgrade will not be difficult for any node operator.
