Ripple Sends 1M XRP To Support Earthquake Victims

Blockchain firm Ripple contributed $1 million in XRP tokens to aid earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria, as shared via Twitter.

In the early hours of February 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked the two nations, killing more than 40k people and affecting over 11 million more. Many nations and charitable organizations rush to offer support in the form of money and cryptocurrencies.

Ripple in its tweet wrote that the donated amount would directly go into the NGOs relief fund.

The San Francisco-based firm will donate $250k in XRP, the equivalent of about 654k XRP, and will also match all crypto donations 2:1, up to $750k.

The fund supports four NGOs and donations are distributed equally. CARE, mercycorps, and RESCUEorg are helping affected communities in Syria and Turkey by providing immediate cash, basic items such as household kits, dignity kits for women and girls, hygiene supplies, and more.

With the move, the fintech giant has joined its peers in providing funds for the quake-hit people.

As reported by TronWeekly, the Ethereum community stepped forward to fund relief efforts, a few days back.

At least two significant donations have been made by its co-founder Vitalik Buterin to aid those who were affected by last week’s deadly earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Buterin donated $1,590 worth of ether throughout the course of the week. His most recent gift was 50 ETH, or around $77,000, donated to Anka Relief on February 12th, according to blockchain security company PeckShield.

Overall, the crypto industry has swiftly responded as blockchain data suggested that wallet addresses supplied by Ahbap have received over $3 million in cryptocurrency donations.

A blockchain analytics company called Chainalysis claims that more than $5 million in cryptocurrency donations have been routed to Turkey and Syria.

XRP Gain Another Listing

Major cryptocurrency startup Binance has given $5 million, while other businesses have committed a total of around $10 million, according to FT.

That said, XRP, the current sixth largest crypto token by market cap, has achieved listing into FuelHash, a Japanese-based asset management platform. This was revealed by crypto enthusiast @sentosumosaba.

With this addition, XRP has joined the league with other leading crypto assets including BTC, ETH, USDC, BNB, etc. XRP continues to hog the limelight for its high-profile lawsuit involving Ripple and SEC as the outcome is likely to seal its fate.
