Shiba Inu’s Official Identity Service Goes Live

Shiba Inu unleashes its long-awaited digital identity revolution—Shib Name Service [SNS]. Set to go live on March 5 at 13:00 UTC, the 1.1 version, in partnership with D3, is designed to simplify users’ transactions by utilizing distinctive Shib names. In the hours leading up to the launch, the SHIB team plans to remove existing name tokens temporarily. During this period, they would capture a snapshot and later use it to airdrop the newly replaced Shib names.

For community members, the Shiba Inu team is launching a special early access offer where users can claim a one-time 69% discount on their first shopping cart of up to 20 *SHIB Name Tokens. This promotion will be available for the first 69 hours after early access opens. Shiba Inu project lead, Shytoshi Kusama, described SNS as a disruptor boasting unique features like human-readable addresses, improving the user experience, and streamlining interactions. For instance, sending tokens to “bob.shib” eliminates the need for lengthy and confusing wallet addresses.

Besides that, the team is set to unveil additional projects that will expand the use of Shib names further: Some of these are:

  • A multichain wallet address across hundreds of different blockchains;
  • A cross-platform Web3 username across different DeFi, SocialFi, GameFi, and other platforms;
  • An infrastructure identifier for smart contracts, nodes, or other decentralized infrastructure;
  • An address to access a decentralized website or dApp;

Shiba Inu Introduces Buying and Selling of Shib Names

Additionally, the SHIB team is offering users the ability to buy, sell, or place offers on existing Shib names on the D3 Marketplace. To become eligible, buyers and sellers are required to have an active account on D3. This feature will be enabled shortly after early access to Shib Names becomes available.

In terms of integrating SNS, the blog post detailed the migration process for existing Shib Name Service holders.

As highlighted in our thread on X last week, the Shib Name Service (SNS) is being grandfathered into D3. Last week, we deployed the D3 Shib Names smart contract on Shibarium, and today the existing SNS smart contract will be frozen. A snapshot of users will be taken, and their upgraded D3 Shib Names will be sent to their wallets.
