Shiba Inu lead developer Shytoshi Kusama poked fun at Coinbase’s latest campaign “Onchain Summer”, where he found a striking similarity to Shiba Inu’s Summer of Shibarium. The project leader nonchalantly remarked, “If it isn’t a Shadowcat, it’s a Copycat.”
For context, the leading exchange is kicking off Onchain Summer to commemorate the launch of Base mainnet on August 9, where some of the famous brands like Coca-Cola, Atari, OpenSea, and over 50 reputed companies, artists, and creators are expected to participate. Onchain Summer is slated to be a multi-week celebration of on-chain art, culture, music, gaming, and more, all built on Base.
In addition, Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, revealed in a post that he had utilized the Base bridge, which had just been built, in a bid to hype up its upcoming initiative. This might have prompted the “Copycat” comment from Kusama.
Armstrong hasn’t responded, but the developer’s tweet has generated intense debate in the SHIB forum, with some theorizing that this might be yet another hint, especially with reference to the “Shadowcat” remark.
A new age for the SHIB token was heralded when Kusama declared the advent of the “Summer of Shibarium” in mid-July, promising significant ecosystem-beneficial releases as it continued to work toward the forthcoming launch of the Layer 2 protocol Shibarium.

In a time when data privacy is a major concern, the announcement, which was made via the official Shiba Inu Twitter account, underlines the important aspects of the new platform and aims to give consumers more control over their digital identities.
The acronym SSI, or “Self-Sovereign Identity,” emphasizes five main advantages: self-custody, portability, zero-knowledge [ZK] compliance, security, and gateway. It alludes to a system for managing digital identities where the person or organization has full control over their personal data.
This includes the freedom to choose when, how, and with whom to share or use this information. In contrast to conventional approaches, where personal data is owned and managed by other companies, SSI is touted to empower individuals with better control.
