Silk Road Funds Should Go To A Bitcoin Reserve; Pierre Rochard Urges Govt To Restrict Auction

Previously, a prominent marketplace that acted as a bridge between the real world and the dark web, Silk Road has been time and again making its way into the headlines. While Ross Ulbricht continues to spend his time in prison, his defunct website has been popping up in the crypto-verse, Hollywood as well as the White House. The latest news comes from a Bitcoin maximalist who has been urging the government to restrict an auction related to the funds involved in Silk Road.

Silk Road Once Again Makes News

Law enforcement and the government come across several Bitcoins as well as other crypto-assets. While most of these are auctioned off, the funds acquired by the Internal Revenue Services [IRS] back in November from a Silk Road hacker were also headed in the same direction. The Bitcoin maximalist, Pierce Rochard penned down a plea in a recent blog post. Rochard in his post urged the government to create a Bitcoin reserve and refrain from auctioning the confiscated Bitcoin worth $1.6 billion.

Rochard pointed out that auctioning off BTC acquired in such a manner was a mistake as the crypto asset had a limited supply. He went on to reveal that the United States Attorney’s Office had reportedly filed a civil complaint for forfeiture.  While urging the government to makes amends to the already existing laws, Rochard wrote,

“I humbly ask our legislators to draft and pass a bill with amendments to the Judiciary Act of 1789 and any other relevant statutes. These amendments would, by operation of law, halt the auctioning off of any bitcoin (BTC) seized by the United States until future legislation is passed.”

Rochard concluded his post by suggesting that a BTC reserve would be “crucial for our national security.”

Earlier this week, Silk Road and Ross Ulbricht were making noise in the White House. As the White House, counsel’s office was analyzing documents pertaining to Ross Ulbricht’s double life sentence. As per certain sources, U.S. President Donald Trump had expressed his sympathies with regard to Ulbricht’s case. While this restored hope in many, several await the release of Silk Road, the movie that is all set to make its way into the theaters in February.
