Solana’s Two-Way Bet: Bitwise CIO Explains His Bullish Thesis

By Sajjal Ali | Edited By Ammar Raza,October 31, 2025, 12:00 PM

Solana
  • Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan believes Solana mirrors Bitcoin’s “two-way win” investment model.
  • Solana’s strength lies in its growing role in the stablecoin and tokenization infrastructure markets.
  • Hougan predicts significant long-term value as SOL expands market share and benefits from overall market growth.

Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise, has presented a compelling case for Solana (SOL), arguing that the blockchain offers a “two-bet opportunity” similar to Bitcoin’s long-term appeal.

In his recent investor note, Hougan compared Bitcoin’s dual upside, growth of the global store-of-value market and Bitcoin’s increasing share of it, to the potential growth path of SOL within the stablecoin and tokenization ecosystem.

Hougan explained that the best crypto investments offer two avenues for success. For Bitcoin, the first bet is on the expansion of the global store-of-value market, which currently totals about $27.5 trillion across gold, Bitcoin, and related assets.

The second bet lies in Bitcoin capturing a larger portion of that market. According to Hougan, even moderate progress in either direction could drive substantial returns for long-term holders.

Tokenization as the Future of Asset Ownership

Drawing a parallel, Hougan stated that SOL presents a similar two-fold investment thesis: growth of the stablecoin and tokenization market, and SOL’s increasing dominance within it.

This market, encompassing Ethereum, Tron, Binance Smart Chain, and Solana, is currently valued at around $768 billion. Solana’s share stands near $107 billion, or 14% of the total, which Hougan considers both a challenge and an opportunity.

He expressed confidence that the stablecoin and tokenization infrastructure will play a central role in the evolution of digital finance. “Over time, nearly all payments will be made using stablecoins, and nearly all assets will be tokenized,” Hougan wrote. “The blockchains that power this transition will be immensely valuable.”

He sees Solana’s rapid transactions, user-friendly design, and active developer community as strong foundations for future growth.

Solana’s Momentum Gains Institutional Recognition

Solana’s momentum is already visible. The network was recently selected by Western Union for its new stablecoin initiative, an endorsement that underscores its growing relevance among institutional players.

While Ethereum remains the leader, Hougan believes Solana’s fast execution and adaptability position it well to gain market share as the broader tokenization landscape expands.

Cautioning that even experts cannot predict every market turn, Hougan concluded that investors can still “stack the odds in their favor” by targeting assets like SOL, which offer dual exposure to both market expansion and increasing network dominance. In his view, SOL stands as one of the few crypto assets where growth potential compounds from two directions, just like Bitcoin.
