Twitter users are subjected to many hacks but a new tweet from a billionaire created an uproar in the crypto-versus. This tweet left Crypto Twitter puzzled as some believed he had been hacked while several suggested otherwise. The latest reports however show he’s been hacked.

Paid Tweet Backfired?

Last week, prominent Venture Capitalist, Tim Draper shared a tweet in support of Bitcoin Cash [BCH]. This further led to an array of negative remarks on Draper’s comment section. While many speculated that he was hacked, the billionaire went ahead and took the tweet down. On Monday, the co-founder of OpenNode, João Almeida put a rest to the theories that Crypto Twitter was coming up with and affirmed that Draper’s account was hacked. His tweet read,

“Can confirm his account was compromised and he deleted the tweet as soon as he was aware.”

Almeida’s affiliation with Draper dates back to 2018, where the billionaire had invested in OpenNode’s seed investment round.

The Bitcoin Cash community, however, was undoubtedly overwhelmed with an endorsement from the billionaire. Draper’s tweet that has now been taken down read,

“I recently purchased some BCH. So easy to buy/use. Go to http://Bitcoin.com. Thank you @rogerver_cash for this innovation. #bitcoin #BitcoinCash”

Roger Ver, the man behind Bitcoin Cash went on to thank Draper, despite being wrongly tagged.

Tim Draper has been a huge supporter of the crypto community. Previously, the Venture Capitalist had exhibited support for various crypto projects. However, the latest one seems to have backfired. Before Almeida’s statement, prominent members of the crypto-verse shared their thoughts on Draper’s BCH endorsement. WhalePanda shared Riccardo Spagni aka Fluffy Pony’s post and stated,

Twitter bot, CryptoWhale also followed suit and implied that it was a paid tweet that backfired. The account further pointed out,

“He’s been paid many times to be an “advisor” for many scam projects in the past.”

Draper hasn’t released an official statement or confirmed the hack. Putting a stop to all the rumors and theories, Almeida asserted that he was in contact with the billionaire’s team who further affirmed that his account was compromised.
