XRP Sales Debate: Ripple’s Plan To Distribute Freely Or Sustain Operations?

In a recent Twitter conversation, the debate over the purpose and nature of XRP sales has come to the forefront. It all started when ScamDetective5, an industry expert, tweeted that XRP was created to sell to retail.

This tweet, which was also posted by Tiffany Hayden back in 2011, sparked a discussion among Ripple enthusiasts and detractors alike.

Azrael – DG – PwntNub commented on ScamDetective5’s tweet, suggesting that Ripple was created solely to sell XRP to retail. However, there was an obvious disagreement regarding the way XRP was being sold to retail. This disagreement ultimately led to Jed McCaleb leaving Ripple.

Ripple CTO Addresses XRP Distribution Plan

Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, chimed in on the conversation to clarify Ripple’s stance on the matter. Schwartz stated:

Ripple was created to distribute XRP as broadly as possible and, with luck and if necessary, be able to generate enough revenue from sales (or things like sales) of XRP to sustain its operations.

However, ScamDetective5 pointed out that legal counsel had suggested that Ripple should not control the distribution of Ripple’s token before its final design and launch in December 2012. It suggests that Ripple’s plan to distribute its token may have been altered at some point.

The founder of MohFit and MohTech also weighed in on the conversation, stating that Schwartz had “single-handedly been exposing you, haters.” The founder added that neither ScamDetective5 nor the “scammer detective boy” had responses that made sense when Schwartz replied to them.

Azrael – DG – PwntNub also suggested that there may have been changes to Ripple’s plan to distribute its token. This change may have caused the disagreement from Jed McCaleb. He further suggested that Ripple’s focus may have shifted from distributing XRP freely to sustaining operations and profits.

During the discussion, another participant raised a question directed towards David, asking for his opinion on what would be more valuable for Ripple: selling their services to institutions or purely selling XRP in a general sense.

However, the debate over the purpose and nature of Ripple’s token sales will likely continue among Ripple enthusiasts and detractors. As Ripple continues to grow and evolve, it will be interesting to see how the distribution of the token plays out in the years to come.
