Asian markets traded mixed on Wednesday as semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI)  stocks supported Japan and South Korean equities, while Hong Kong lagged due to weaker performance of major tech stocks. The divergent performance reflected renewed confidence in chipmakers following a sharp rebound in U.S. semiconductor stocks, even as broader technology sentiment remained uneven.

The Nikkei 225 was up 1.93% to 67,510.9, while the KOSPI rose 5.23% to 7,100.85 after the U.S. semiconductor stock index increased 5.2% in the previous trading session, as pr a recent post by CryptosRus. Additionally, the Shanghai Composite was up 0.40% to 3,879.69, and the Hang Seng Index fell 0.62% to 24,977.28 as internet stocks failed to perform well.

Asian Markets Rally as Semiconductor Stocks Recover

Chip producers were the top performers in Asia as both Samsung and SK Hynix recovered from the prior declines on fears of excessive valuation due to AI. Moreover, Japan’s tech companies such as Tokyo Electron and SoftBank increased in value as investors bought shares of those companies that are expected to profit from continuous investments in AI and advanced chip manufacturing in future quarters.

These gains came after Tuesday’s recovery when the Nikkei was up 3%, and the KOSPI increased by 3.6% amid several days of losses in major indices. South Korean semiconductor producers became a key factor in stabilizing the market after their declines pushed the index close to bear territory.

Earnings and China Outlook Shape Investor Focus

A further boost was received from Wall Street, where the Nasdaq 100 had its strongest day in three weeks, and semiconductor stocks rallied heavily. Adam Turnquist, Chief Technical Strategist of LPL Financial, mentioned that the recent pullback looked more like a reset phase after gains rather than an indication of weakness within the long-term AI investment trend.

Market participants are currently tracking the quarterly earnings of big techs like Alphabet and Tesla as almost one-fifth of the market value of the S&P 500 reports this week. Positive guidance from corporates will strengthen the buying sentiment of semiconductor stocks, while disappointing figures may challenge the recent rally in AI stocks and technology as a whole.

Hong Kong lagged among Asian market peers amid the negative performance of companies like Tencent, Xiaomi, and Meituan despite strength in other sectors. Chinese stocks saw some positive pressure amid the hopes of Beijing’s policy easing towards the tech and semiconductor industry.
