Debate arose between Cardano community and José Maria Macedo, after he called World Mobile’s initial launch on the chain ‘mistake.’
Macedo congratulated World Mobile Team on their achievement for reaching 1.3 million paying Daily Active Users (DAUs). The CEO of Delphi Digital, highlighted World Mobile’s journey from 2018, “before DePin wasn’t even a thing.” Macedo, particularly, praised the firm’s ambition of using crypto-economic incentives to bootstrap a global mobile network owned and operated by its users.”
However, conflict surfaced when Macedo stated that World Mobile’s decision to roll out World Mobile Chain on Cardano fell short of expectations. He suggested launching on Solana or other high-throughput EVM blockchains would have offered better scalability for wider adoption.
If they had launch on Solana or EVM, I think they’d be much more well-known now. Regardless, proud to have played a tiny role in making this happen, and excited to continue following their progress.
Dave, a prominent ADA member, emphasized that WMT even now, chose not to build on Solana or an evm chain, instead they opted base and its native L3. Additionally, Ethereum’s expensive fees over the last 5 years could have deter the project.
Cardano’s Ecosystem vs. VC Funding: World Mobile’s Strategic Choice
He argued that World Mobile utilized Cardano to bootstrap the buying power and passion of the community by selling NFTs to raise funds. Dave believed it was the right decision, as there were no VC’s on the Cardano ecosystem unlike other chains like Solana.
That being said, there is a lack of marketing to increase visibility of good projects on Cardano. But World mobile has independently promoted themselves over the last few years with funds raised here, Dave added.
It needs to be noted that World Mobile Chain, operates natively on multiple chains including Base, Ethereum, Cardano, and BNB Chain. The project seeks to disrupt the traditional telecom industry by replacing its centralized and outdated infrastructure with a blockchain-based, decentralized connectivity solution.
By 2030, the global telecom industry is predicted to be 3x of the current crypto market cap.
