Mantle Migrates Super Portal to Chainlink CCIP to Strengthen Cross-Chain Security

What to know:

  • Mantle migrates its Super Portal to Chainlink CCIP, strengthening cross-chain security for institutional adoption.
  • Chainlink CCIP replaces LayerZero OFT, enhancing MNT transfers with enterprise-grade cross-chain security standards.
  • Mantle's infrastructure upgrade addresses rising cross-chain security risks amid growing institutional blockchain adoption.

Mantle

Mantle has announced the migration of its Super Portal from LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), a move aimed at improving the security of cross-chain transfers for MNT, the native token underpinning its ecosystem with more than $2.5 billion in assets.

The migration, developed with crypto exchange Bybit comes as blockchain projects place greater emphasis on securing cross-chain infrastructure following years of major bridge exploits that have cost the industry billions of dollars.

Mantle Adopts CCIP for Cross-Chain Security

Mantle said it selected Chainlink CCIP after reviewing its cross-chain infrastructure to better meet institutional-grade security requirements. CCIP uses Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network, is secured by 16 independent node operators, incorporates built-in rate limits to reduce systemic risk, and meets SOC 2 Type II compliance standards.

As a result of this update, MNT will switch from LayerZero OFT to the Chainlink Cross-Chain Token (CCT), giving the network more control over the cross-chain token ecosystem and setting the foundation for expansion into other blockchain ecosystems.

Super Portal, which connects the Ethereum and Solana networks, will be placed in a temporary shutdown from July 9 until July 15 due to the migration. According to Mantle, users do not need to take any action since their MNT balance and transactions on Bybit and Byreal will remain untouched.

Institutional Adoption Reshapes Cross-Chain Security

This migration is part of an even broader trend of an industry seeking to make its infrastructure safer and more interoperable, as real-world asset tokens and massive amounts of capital move to blockchain. Indeed, cross-chain bridges remain one of the most popular hacking targets in the blockchain ecosystem, making infrastructure security a priority for developers and financial institutions alike.

“As tokenized financial assets move from concept to scale, the infrastructure that carries them across chains cannot be an afterthought,” said Emily Bao, key advisor at Mantle.

Noting the migration process, Johann Eid, Chainlink’s Chief Business Officer, said that this is indicative of the larger change happening in the industry, where top protocols are now adopting by-default secure cross-chain infrastructures.

What Comes Next

In addition to increased security measures, the migration puts Mantle on track towards further cross-chain expansion as it prepares itself for integration with even more blockchain networks through MNT.

This improvement will further support Chainlink’s increasing importance in blockchain interoperability, with CCIP becoming an increasingly common method of securing valuable digital assets.

In Mantle’s case, the step is strengthening an essential component of the infrastructure in a time when competitors are scrambling to create blockchain networks that will support tokenized finance.
