North America Leads As Ripple’s RLUSD Hits $1B Market Cap in Institutional Stablecoin Boom

RLUSD, Ripple’s fully reserved and regulated stablecoin, is at the forefront of a major shift in the stablecoin market. In 2025, the total stablecoin market cap surged 50% to $308 billion, and on-chain transaction volume jumped 74% to $33.4 trillion.

According to the reports, once primarily used for trading and decentralized finance, stablecoins are now emerging as essential infrastructure for payments, cross-border remittances, and enterprise settlement.

North America is at the forefront, handling 45% of crypto transactions above $10 million, highlighting institutional-scale flows driving demand for compliance-first assets.

Stablecoins like USDC, PYUSD, and the newly launched RLUSD are designed for this environment. Over 80% of activity occurs globally, indicating a growing “digital dollar” economy.

Ripple’s RLUSD has been positioned as a fully reserved, regulated stablecoin tailored for institutional adoption, circulating on Ethereum and the XRP Ledger, with plans to expand to additional Ethereum Layer-2 networks.

Regulation and Market Infrastructure

Regulatory clarity is central to stablecoin adoption in North America. The U.S. GENIUS Act of 2025 established federal rules allowing fully backed stablecoins while banning yield-bearing models, with dual federal-state oversight and strict 1:1 reserve requirements.

State regulators in New York, Texas, and Wyoming have advanced complementary frameworks. Canada emphasizes registration, transparency, and custody compliance.

Liquidity and technical infrastructure are equally critical. Centralized exchanges concentrate stablecoin liquidity among regulated issuers, while Ethereum, Solana, and XRPL support multi-chain on-chain liquidity for trading, lending, and cross-border settlement.

RLUSD has integrated with market makers and offers near real-time reserve transparency through third-party attestations, strengthening trust among institutions. Custody solutions from providers like Standard Custody & Trust Company ensure secure storage and regulatory compliance.

Ripple’s RLUSD Leading Institutional Adoption

Since its launch on December 17, 2024, RLUSD has managed to achieve a market capitalization of over $1 billion in only 323 days. The circulating supply has reached $1.34 billion by the end of 2025, with 80% on Ethereum and the remaining on XRPL.

RLUSD is currently listed on over 10 regulated exchanges, including Binance, Kraken, Bybit, Gemini, and many more, with an annual volume of $43.3 billion. It is used for pilot programs with payment providers such as Mastercard, WebBank, and other fintechs for real-world settlements.

RLUSD leverages Ripple’s existing business network to integrate into treasury operations, cross-border payments, and on-chain capital markets.

Its rules-first approach, multi-chain architecture, and reserves are well-suited to meet North American institutional requirements, providing a template for compliant stablecoins.
