Ripple Prime has launched support for real-world asset (RWA) perpetual swaps, allowing institutional clients to trade exposure linked to more than 100 traditional financial markets around the clock. The offering covers equities, indices, exchange-traded funds, metals, energy and foreign exchange. It combines these exposures with cross-margining and collateral management through Ripple Prime’s institutional brokerage platform.

Ripple Prime Opens 100 Traditional Markets to 24/7 Trading
According to Ripple’s announcement, clients including Virtu are already trading RWA swaps through the new service. The contracts reference perpetual futures listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid, a decentralized derivatives venue. This structure gives eligible institutions access to price exposure across traditional asset classes outside standard exchange hours, including weekends.

The product does not mean that clients directly own the underlying stocks, ETFs or commodities. Instead, the swaps reference derivatives linked to those markets, so their value and risks differ from holding the assets themselves. The distinction matters because perpetual contracts can involve leverage, funding costs and liquidation risks, depending on their terms and market conditions.

Cross-Margining Could Help Institutions Deploy Capital More Efficiently
Ripple Prime says clients can cross-margin RWA swap positions against other supported asset classes through a single counterparty relationship. That setup allows eligible exposures and collateral to be managed together rather than maintaining separate margin arrangements for every market. Ripple also says its RLUSD stablecoin can be used as collateral for RWA swap transactions.
For institutional trading firms, the appeal is operational as well as market access. Consolidated margin may reduce the amount of capital tied up across separate venues, although the actual benefit depends on portfolio composition, margin rules and risk controls.
Cross-margining can also concentrate exposure within a single intermediary, making counterparty risk management important even when trading spans several markets.
New RWA Swaps Extend Ripple Prime’s Derivatives Business
The launch builds on Ripple Prime’s expansion into traditional-market derivatives. In August, the company introduced its Delta One business, offering total return swaps across U.S.-listed equities, indices and digital assets. The new RWA perpetual swaps broaden that strategy by adding access to derivatives markets designed for continuous trading.
Ripple’s announcement says trading volumes for perpetual futures linked to real-world assets have grown sharply year to date, but it does not provide a specific volume figure.
The launch therefore reflects a push to serve demand for round-the-clock market access, rather than proof that the new product has already reached significant scale. Actual adoption, trading liquidity and the reliability of reference prices will help determine whether the offering gains traction.
BVI Licensing Sets the Initial Scope for RWA Swaps
Ripple says the service is currently offered under Ripple Prime’s CIV BVI license, with plans to make it available in additional regions. That means institutions should assess eligibility and applicable local rules rather than assume the product is available globally. Regulatory permissions, client classifications and the treatment of derivatives can differ across jurisdictions.
The broader challenge for tokenized and blockchain-linked financial markets is to combine continuous access with robust safeguards. Markets that trade outside conventional hours may face thinner liquidity or sharper price moves when traditional exchanges are closed.
For institutions, the product’s value will depend not only on access to more markets but also on transparent pricing, collateral management and clear risk controls as adoption develops.
