Securitize and Socios will launch Socios Equity Tokens offering regulated minority stakes in pro sports teams, debuting on Securitize's EU DLT-licensed trading system, bridging tokenized real-world assets, institutional capital, and fan-driven sports finance for global investors.

In a recent development, Securitize and Socios have joined forces to issue regulated tokenized equity equity tokens representing minority interests in professional sports teams, operating under the Socios Equity Token brand.

This marks a significant union of sports finance and capital markets utilizing blockchain technology. This initiative is the first one by Securitize on Securitize’s fully-compliant European Trading & Settlement System, licensed under the EU DLT Pilot Regime.

Equity Beyond Loyalty

One of the ways that the Tokenized Team Equity changes the model is that while fan tokens are more of a loyalty or reward tool, equity tokens will actually be shares.

This means that from an investor perspective you can have regulatory-compliant and liquid access to a capital asset that is traditionally only available to extremely wealthy persons and private equity companies.

Change of Sector and Expectation

This strategy reflects a broader trend of institutions moving to tokenization. BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and Apollo are among the big players in the blockchain sector, expanding their on-chain funds and setting up systems based on stablecoins for settlement.

Socios

This token project at the EU DLT Pilot Regime has to prove the model’s usefulness for the secondary market trading and settlement of securities in which the token will be the asset. This is actually one of the biggest challenges that the exchanges, brokers, and custodians have to face.
