Bitcoin BRC20 founder Domo has openly criticized the Unisat wallet for its proposed Ordinals Jubilee upgrade. Domo has called on the Bitcoin BRC20 community to reject the impending fork suggested by Unisat, advocating for a non-profit, safety-first approach to the protocol’s maintenance.
Domo took to the X platform to express his concerns, stating, “Recognizing the serious implications and valuations involved, I believe rushing these updates in BRC20 is reckless, disregards their peer indexers, and could potentially harm the broader community of BRC20 users.” He referenced the 0.8/0.9 incident, emphasizing the complexities of integrating new updates into the BRC20 standard.
The founder highlighted the need for robust testing, coordination, and validation infrastructure before implementing protocol enhancements. Domo also raised suspicions about the timing and incentive structure behind Unisat’s actions, suggesting it might be part of a calculated, ongoing strategy to gain control of the protocol.
Backing Domo’s concerns, the non-profit foundation L1Fxyz, which is dedicated to maintaining the decentralized nature of the BRC20 standard, has stepped forward. The foundation is actively maintaining an indexer to ensure the safety of all funds within BRC20 assets. Together with Domo, they urged the collective BRC20 community to reject Unisat’s proposed fork and stand united for a non-profit, safety-focused protocol maintenance approach.
Unisat Defends Bitcoin BRC20 Upgrade
Unisat, in an attempt to address concerns, posted an apology for deferring other tasks to focus on the Ordinals Jubilee upgrade of BRC-20. They emphasized the tight schedule but pledged to do everything possible to prevent a split in the BRC20 community.
Responding to queries about the term ‘split,’ Unisat clarified that it implies a more intricate scenario than a standard ‘fork.’ While a fork involves two streams going in their own directions without affecting each other, a split signifies sets A (BRC-20 frozen at 0.9) and B (Ordinals Jubilee) coexisting in the same physical blockchain but with different rules, leading to potential cross-affecting complications.
Amidst this unfolding drama, the BRC20 community finds itself at a crossroads, torn between Unisat’s urgency and Domo’s call for a measured, community-focused approach. As the Ordinals Jubilee upgrade looms, the fate of BRC20 hangs in the balance, awaiting the community’s collective decision on the proposed fork.
