The Toncoin rebrand will rename The Open Network’s native token is Gram. The change was approved by the community via an on-chain governance vote. As planned, the ticker switch from TON to GRAM is scheduled to happen at 12:00 UTC on 15 June 2026.
The official announcement said the proposal was accepted by 81.22% of the support. The blockchain will continue to be called The Open Network (TON). The update just modifies the token name, ticker symbol, and branding.

Toncoin Rebrand Needs No Token Swap
The Toncoin rebrand will not require a token swap. Holders will not need a migration, bridge transfer, or claim process. Existing balances, wallet addresses, staking positions, contracts, NFTs, Jettons, and DeFi assets will continue to work.
After the switch, one TON will appear as one GRAM. The change affects how the asset is shown on supported platforms. It does not alter user holdings or network operations.
The voting took place on the platform TON Vote from June 1st to June 8th, 2026. Voting power was based on TON balances recorded in a May 31 snapshot. Telegram made the proposal as a verified organization.

The Toncoin rebrand vote was based on open-source smart contracts on-chain. That process provided a clear record of participation and approval to users. The final outcome was positive in favor of the Gram name restoration.
Exchanges, wallets, and explorers should expect labels to get updated by June 15. Trading pairs, asset names, and user interfaces will change. Full consistency across platforms is planned for June 22.
Telegram Role Grows as Gram Branding Returns
During a three-month transition period, platforms are advised to show Gram, previously Toncoin. The text is designed to minimize user confusion. Following that, platforms should only show the asset as “gram.”
In a post on Telegram, founder Pavel Durov said the Toncoin rebrand reintroduces the name that was included in the 2018 TON whitepaper by Telegram. Later the project switched to Gram as a result of the action of SEC. Telegram’s original token sale plans were also terminated.
The Gram return is seen by the supporters as a symbolic step for the network. According to the announcement, Telegram is now the largest TON validator. It attributed it to technical improvements in terms of throughput, finality, and fees.
At the time of writing, the price of Toncoin stands at $1.71, according to CoinMarketCap data. This represents a daily drop of 4.92% and a weekly loss of 13%.

Toncoin had been trading at around $2.10 within the week. The drop came due to bearish market behavior following the vote and statement. The Toncoin rebranding exercise does not alter anything about the balances or functionality of the network.
This follows the “Make TON Great Again” program. This comes as the ecosystem continues to refine its technical identity and capabilities. Reverting to Gram brings together the existing TON blockchain with its early branding efforts.
