Bitcoin dominance is drawing attention as analysts debate whether a breakdown could trigger a broader altcoin rally. While Bitcoin continues trading in a range with mixed technical signals, market participants are watching closely to see if capital rotates into alternative cryptocurrencies in the coming weeks.

Bitcoin dominance has been the key focus point as the crypto market seeks the next trend to follow. As Bitcoin remains range-bound, according to crypto expert Crypto Patel, the breakdown of Bitcoin dominance could indicate a shift of funds towards other coins.

At the time of writing, BTC is trading at $62,999, down 1.06% over the last 24 hours, with $25.12 billion in daily trading volume and a market capitalization of $1.27 trillion.

Bitcoin Dominance Breakdown Signals Potential Altcoin Rally

A popular crypto analyst, Crypto Patel, provided a chart on August 1, 2026, illustrating that Bitcoin Dominance has formed what he refers to as a bearish technical formation.

As reported by Crypto Patel, BTC Dominance has broken down and has shown bearish continuation because it failed to break out above the crucial resistance during its retest.

He mentioned that the Fair Value Gap (FVG) is already filled, with the rejection process ongoing. At present, the Bitcoin Dominance indicator is sitting at 58.95%, and according to Patel, it may drop to the 43% level.

Patel made a comparison between the existing structure and other market cycles that have existed in the past. There has been an instance where there were significant drops in the Bitcoin Dominance percentage in 2018 and 2021. Patel thinks that the same pattern can repeat itself.

Nonetheless, market players should understand that the past is no indicator of what lies ahead. The crypto market has gone through many changes since the emergence of institutional players, Bitcoin ETFs, and more regulations.

Bitcoin Price Holds Near Neutral Levels

Although there is continued focus on Bitcoin Dominance, technical indicators for Bitcoin continue to be bearish.

Currently, the Relative Strength Index (RSI-14) stands at 44.98, still below its signal level of 51.99. This shows that even though there is some recovery from the recent decline of Bitcoin in June, buying interest is still lacking.

At the same time, the MACD indicator shows the MACD line at -38.39, which is above the signal line at -221.78, while the value of the histogram reaches 183.40. Despite the positive value of the histogram, it signals that buying power becomes weaker.

Should BTC fail to attract more buyers, it will continue fluctuating in the range until the breakout occurs.

What Happens Next?

The next few weeks may be crucial for the whole crypto market. In case Bitcoin Dominance keeps moving downwards while Bitcoin stays above the critical support levels, there is a likelihood that more money will flow to altcoins, which will create a possibility for a rally.

However, in case Bitcoin finds strength again and moves Bitcoin Dominance higher through the resistance, hopes for an altcoin season may be reduced.

Investors would remain keen on monitoring not only the price movements of Bitcoin but also the indicator called Bitcoin Dominance. When taken together, the two indicators can give the clearest indication of whether the market is gearing up for another round of altcoin dominance or Bitcoin dominance.
