Ethereum is not only the second-largest digital currency by market cap but is also a fundamental platform for smart contracts that was co-founded by Vitalik Buterin, Joseph Lubin, and others. The platform continues to be at the heart of blockchain invention.
Since ETH still serves as the main settlement layer for DeFi, NFTs, and tokenized assets, any changes in the protocol are closely monitored by the developers and institutions. Recently, Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin revealed that the network is only a few steps away from major technical upgrades, which are intended to improve interoperability.
ZK Proofs Target Cross-Chain Friction
Zero-knowledge proof technology (ZK proofs) is attracting greater attention from their ability to reduce cross-chain frictions. Lubin mentioned that “advances in zero-knowledge proof technology (a method that allows one to verify a statement without revealing the content) are being made to support quicker and more secure communication between ETH’s Layer 1 and Layer 2″.

With ZK proofs, it is possible to validate a state without disclosing any of the data, thereby solving the security issues that have troubled the traditional cross-chain bridges.
This method is in line with Ether’s rollup-centric strategy, as which L2s are gradually becoming a bigger part of the transaction volume.

Connecting the Dots of the DeFi, Institutions, and Developers
One of the main advantages of the Interchain Token Movement (ILM) is that it will eliminate the need for risky bridges etc. Currently, Ethereum has many fragmented ecosystems which would be unified.
For example, institutional and DeFi protocols would greatly benefit from the reduced counterparty risk and faster settlement times. The developers would be getting handy and simpler multi-chain application building tools.
In addition, exchanges and custodians might face lesser operational problems. Besides, the rise in transaction complexity is anticipated to boost ETH burn, which in turn will impact the supply dynamics.

Background in a Developing Market
Marching ahead with Zero-Knowledge (ZK) interoperability is a move that fits in well with the growing institutional productization and the regulator’s providing clarity on digital assets.

Other competing chains such as Solana and the modular architectures are also working towards the same goals, which leads to the question of what is the real composability advantage ETH.
