FC Barcelona to jump on the NFT bandwagon in partnership with Ownix

November 4, 2021 by Parth Dubey

Futbol Club Barcelona or FC Barcelona, the Spanish professional football club, is now entering the NFT industry with the goal to increase the club’s global outreach. The club has partnered with Ownix, an exclusive NFT marketplace. The goal behind debuting an NFT collection is to honor the huge history that lives with the club.

In their 122 years of existence, FC Barcelona has played historical matches, witnessed historical goals, and encouraged top-notch players as members. According to Wikipedia, the team has won 95 domestic and international trophies and competitions overall. One of the non-fungible tokens (NFT) will depict the illustration of these trophies, including 26 national league and five UEFA Champions League titles.

“The Club is constantly looking for new ways to connect with its fans, and we believe that creating these NFTs is a unique opportunity to continue growing and consolidating the Barça brand by bringing unique moments that have made Barça fans dream and FC Barcelona a well-known club on every level.”

The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta

FC Barcelona NFT coming too late?

The debut NFT release by FC Barcelona will be coming up on 24th November as the countdown on the website of Ownix displays. But it seems that they are already very late as more than two dozen European clubs have their own NFT collections. In fact, the former star player of the team, Lionel Messi, who left the team for Paris St. Germain, has his own NFT collection.

According to Laporta, the creation of these NFTs will make “FC Barcelona a well-known club on every level.” While plenty of soccer clubs and leagues have entered the NFT sphere, National Basketball Association-based NFTs are also quite popular. Recently, we also witnessed the partnership between Sorare and Spain’s La Liga to become the first European soccer league to offer the NFTs of every player on the team.

As many athletes are releasing their own NFTs, celebrities from all spheres seem to be concentrating on the release of unique digital tokens.
