Solana

Global remittance service Western Union is forming a collaboration with blockchain infrastructure company Rain to offer a wallet and a Solana-powered USDPT Visa card in 37 territories.

Users could receive international money transfers, keep money in dollar equivalents and make purchases in the places where Visa cards are accepted, all in their wallets, combining money transfer channels with blockchain settlement technology.

What Has Been Disclosed

Western Union will be a custody wallet and a distribution provider for USDPT, which is an on-chain Sol stablecoin, with funds coming from Western Union’s remittance service itself or transferred through Western Union, and card spending being carried out via a Rain-issued Visa card.

The release is planned for 37 countries, which are focused mainly on those corridors which have traditionally high rates of remittance. Solana has been favoured in this move as it can execute a settlement almost instantly, and fees are very low, which are both very important factors when it comes to payments made with regular consumers.

Blockchains Enter Everyday Payments

The change is a sign of traditional financial institutions accepting public blockchains for everyday transactions, not merely asset trading. It broadens stablecoin use cases from DeFi to real-world commerce for investors and exchanges.

A controlled way for developers to enter Solana is being offered, while legacy networks being plugged into the “rails” via on-chain settlement is another template for institutions. Regulators might follow how Western Union’s licensed presence is playing in regard to USDPT collateral, customer identification, and “travel rule” compliance.

Bridging Two Ecosystems

Stablecoin payment channels increased really after 2025-2026, but mostly volume was crypto-native platform-only. The integration of Solana settlement with the Visa network by Western Union is the linkage of two ecosystems.
