The Sui network outage has also brought up new concerns, following the layer-1 blockchain’s two stalling incidents in late May 2026. Block production stopped during both incidents. The disruptions came while Sui promoted its network for DeFi, gaming, and institutional use at a global scale.
The first network outage on Sui was experienced on May 28, with the mainnet stalling for approximately six hours. No more new checkpoints were detected. This was due to a consensus commit bug in a recent software release that resulted in repeated crashes of the validators.

Sui Status Page Reports Second Mainnet Stall
Sui’s status page listed the incident as a major outage starting as early as 07:15 PDT. On X, the core team announced that transactions were suspended. Later validators added a patch, and over 2/3 of the stake upgraded before the restoration day.
According to the team, no user funds were lost in the Sui network outage. Safety mechanisms prevented inconsistent states when the chain was halted. After sufficient validators migrated to the fixed release on mainnet operations, block production was resumed around 20:32 UTC.
On 29th May around 12:19 UTC, another Sui outage was reported. The settlement issues on mainnet were again identified on the status page. It did not display any new blocks for over an hour before activity picked up again, even quicker than the previous stall.

The status page later said two-thirds of the stake had upgraded to the fix. It reported the network as online as it continued to monitor. That update showed the immediate issue was contained, but the Sui network outage remained under scrutiny from observers.
Sui Network Outage Adds Pressure on Mainnet Stability
The incidents are in addition to the earlier technical issues on Sui. The network had a similar six-hour consensus divergence event in January 2026. A November 2024 disruption tied to congestion control had already raised questions about recurring operational pressure on mainnet stability.
The Sui network outage also had a negative impact on the sentiment. According to CoinMarketCap, SUI dropped about 2% over 24 hours after the May 28 halt. The token trades near $0.90 as wider crypto markets delivered mixed performance during the same period.

Sui is an object-centric model, parallel execution, move-based blockchain developed by Mysten Labs. Those features are designed for throughput and security.
Nevertheless, the recent Sui network outage highlighted the importance of uptime in production environments, as it is critical to adoption and developer confidence.
